Affirmative Action was desperately needed when it was created. I remember how difficult it was for other than white races including women to get jobs or to simply advance.

However I also remember how it felt to apply for a job and be told well you ranked in the top three but due to Affirmative Action you will be ranked thirtieth. I remember the hatred I felt toward someone whom I did not know.

Therefore racism even in an attempt to help another should not be tolerated.

I agree. Affirmative Action is economically inefficient to businesses as it gives preference to a person based upon skin color, religion, handicap, or gender.

But, at the same time, RACISM is economically inefficient as well. When a woman, or a minority gets passed over for a job, despite being more qualified, it is equally as damaging to business, and society at large.

So, until the good old boy network is broken up a little bit, then Affirmative Action remains a neccessary evil in our society.

I don't think Affirmative Action is as necessary as it was at one time. I think in general, employers are more open minded to hiring the best employee these days. In a decade or so from now, I would hope that Affirmative Action is no longer necessary and is done away with for good.

It's a tool of Political Correctness. The guy on Glenn Beck had a great example of it gone awry yesterday. There was a fire chief job up for grabs. There were 5 whites and a black that were in the final rounds of interviews. Some representative nazi for some latino deal was trying to con the (whoever makes that choice) into having 3 out of the top 5 be latinos because the town was 60% latino. The guy was having a cow because as long as they bring the hose and water, does it matter what color the fireman is? Yeah, the BEST candidate gets it, not the one with the right skin color....

Affirmative action was needed when it was created in order to stop employers from being racist but in today's society it would be best to choose the best person for the job.

Affirmative action was not intended to be racist but in the long run it actually is causing reverse racism. You are absolutely correct the best candidate should get the job without any prejustice.

The best candidate for the job will almost never get the job if that person does not "sell" themselves as the best person for the job.

Regardless of how the other person gets a position, it is up to you to accept it and try harder for the next position that opens up.

You will always be passed over if you stay quiet. Promote yourself! Just do not over-do it and get annoying.

I will not promote you if I do not know what you can do. Show that you care about your job. Show that you want to succeed. Like it or not, I want someone who will try. I believe that most, if not all managers will agree with me.

What a spin "Affirmative action". Try appling for a government job and not checking your race. I know, I work for the state of Nevada.

It shouldn't be okay but why is it ok to have BET tv when you can't have another network geered towards one race? The double-standard crap is ludicrous and if the best person for the job can't be hired, then there is a problem. Even if the best person is a man and they are put in over a less qualified female, it would be better than hiring a substandard employee.

I liked the way that Condaleeza handled it when when was university president. She used Affirmative Action to hire candidates, but not to determine whether or not they got tenure. Everybody got a chance to prove their merits, but whether or not they kept the job was based on how well they did.

It's reverse discrimination, getting back at the whites for turning America into a superpower. And Unions still have a place in this country, very few places mind you, but there are still places that are better off, like the produce industry, and the meat industry.
