Years ago, I had encephalitis (sleeping sickness). It's an inflammation of the brain so I consider myself a brain injury survivor. Doctors told us later that part of my brain died where the remaining functioning brain made up for the dead parts. I feel like I achieved things that I was told that I could not do. Only thing is that parts of me developed faster than others.
So, part of Bob's brain will never be useful again but he is learning to use other parts of his brain to make up for the dead part.

For years I hated people like you, because you made fun and tormented people born with a physical or mental handicap. I have come to realize that individuals like yourself are mentally ill, and I feel sorry for you. Time makes handicappers of us all, so do not think that you are exempt from being disabled. When you are in a nursing home, all alone, needing your diaper changed, I hope you remember your cruel and insulting younger years.
