Have there been any major changes to the way people apply for planing permision?

Not really, though the advent of the electronic council services has allowed planning permissions to be applied for online. So instead of having to send in 2 copies of drawings and application documents, things are done electronically on the net. Decisions are notified by email (or some councils still notify by post), and the public can view the applications online so it's a lot more accessible for people to comment.

It saves paper, cost and time, though the time the council takes to make a decision hasn't change.
