WOW.. your question is vague so here goes......
In Australia (which is where this question is posted) the GST is 10% and under the legislation prices must be inclusive of any applicable GST. So if you are buying something that has 30% off then the original price quoted (unless its via an internet site or something) should already include GST so from the buyers perspective it should go as follows....$49 * 70%= $34.30 if for some reason they havent included the GST then it would be (49+10%)= 53.90 less 30% = $37.73. From the retailers perspective (a) the price is GST inclusive (49.00-30%=)$34.30 divide by 11 (GST component) = 3.12 so it would be sales revenue=31.18 GSt=3.12. (b) the price is not GST inclusive then the scenario would be (49+10%=) $53.90 -30%= $37.73 so sales revenue would be 34.40 (10/11th) and GST would be $3.43.
Hope that helps.

Hi! If you are talking about Australia it is plus the GST which is 10% so it would be $49 + $4.90 Total $53.90

$34.30 is $40 minus 30%. To find the full cost, take $34.30 X 1..06 (insert tax rate for whatever the tax is) i.e. if tax is 6%, take $34.30 X 1.06. = $36.36
