I don't think that it is the workers themselves(With a few exceptions) who are the problem. I was a civil service employee for 5 years. When you consistently read about high ranking officials using tax dollars for their personal use and you're making just over minimum wage and doing the job of 2-5 people because of "budget cuts", it does tend to make even the most dedicated worker frustrated and lose all motivation. The blame, IMHO, lays with Gov't officials in the top offices. In most cases, they are people who have no idea how the job must be done, and force the frontline workers to do much more with much less.

No not all, I was a Gov employee and I not only did my job but was called upon numerous times to do other people's jobs as well...there are some however who think they aren't required to do more than their job description, who hate their position or don't feel they are being paid fairly...those are the ones who usually don't come across the greatest over the phone...

Like everything else, you can't judge all by what a few do (or don't do).

No. My best friend works a goverment job and she works her butt off. She is not allowed to work overtime and has to get her stuff done in 40. Her case load has more than doubled in the last couple of years and has been at her job for 8 years.
My dad was a rural mail carrier for a small town mail route. He did the best that he could at it. Everyone loved having him do the job.

Don't let your opinion about one or two people spread to the people that you don't know that are hard workers and good at their jobs.

No...there are some services that they do that you actually might take for granted. Like the garbage man, postal workers, the sewer workers, fire dept, police dept, etc. Not all govt employees are bad. Politicians are another story.
