I do not know that that is the case overall. It could be policy within your school district. But most states have a gifted/talented program plus a chance for gifted students to take advanced placement classes and sometimes even classes from the local junior college. If you don't have these programs, do some research about them, and then go before your School Board and ask why such programs aren't implemented in your district.

It's the societal trend to make everyone feel good about themselves. I've finally come up with a catchy phrase for it and everything (since the education business is all about catchy phrases and acronyms). It's all about "excuses, not expectations." Obviously it should be the other way around.

As for the validity of your statement, I'm glad you clarified. This is not happening everywhere. Many teachers recognize the need to support their gifted students and do a great job with it. The problem comes with so many students falling behind. You want to catch them all up, and the smarter ones are the ones who get left behind. It's a sad trend, but there ya have it.

There are special accelerated schools and accelerated classrooms in most public schools nowadays. If the children are proven to be highly intelligent for their age, then they are put into these "gifted" programs. You should brush up on whats going on in schools.

hmmmm, i've never heard this before, we have plenty of gifted programs in my district. but what we also have is plenty of parents who believe their child is gifted...when they aren't. why do we want to keep telling mediocre kids they are "gifted" when they aren't?
