Michael Jordan
Rookie of the Year (1985)
Defensive Player of the Year (1988)
NBA MVP (1988, 1991, 1992, 1996, 1998)
Finals MVP (1991, 1992, 1993, 1996, 1997, 1998)
Six Championships
And he changed Chicago from Al Capone's town to Jordan and the Bulls' town. Chicago can never repay him for that.

Michael Jordan is and probably will always be the greatest due to the rule changes. He stuck out in an era where two other greats dominated and he surpassed them and by a great margin. His league was much more physical, they allowed hands on defense on the perimeter, and in today's game they don't. He was physically abused repeatedly by different teams, Detroit and New York, but was able to overcome their abuse to win. Today's players are better skilled offensively as a whole, but the game has become much more like the college game because it allows zones and the physical contact has been reduced a lot. If Michael had this league to play in during his prime, he wouldn't have ever needed to develop a jumpshot, because he would have been able to drive the ball continuously. But aside from that scenario, he's dominated so many great players. The new players of today don't have that advantage.

Obviously Michael Jordan is the obvious awnser. However what about Larry Bird who set the standards, or Lebron who is exceeding the standards now. Lebron is becoming the greatest basketball player and will be around for a long time.

Micheal ''Air" Jordan
The man changed basketball as we now know it. He not only was a great scorer but he was a great defender as well, something you dont see now and days from the top scorers of today. He revolutinized the basketball shoe industry he paved the way for all the young stars of today. Look at Kobe Bryant plays a similar style as Jordan did in his younger years, Lebron James has that same flare as Jordan but with out that killer instinct ( Jordan always took the game winning shot and he could make free throws) Jodan is the greates ball player ever.

BASKETBALLCHICK............Your crazy to say Lebron is becoming the greatest basketball player ever. Hes not even the best in the game today. If hes becoming the best basketball player ever then what are Kobe, D-Wade, Garnett, Duncan, and Dirk becoming b/c they are all better in my opinion. I know LBJ has only a couple of years experience, but you would have to be the best player in the league at this time to be mentioned in this argument of greateset player ever.
NOW- I believe that Kobe and MJ are as equal as it comes as being the greatest ever. People will argue with me all day, but what could Jordan do that Kobe cant or hasnt already done (physically). Kobe also has as much heart and "will" as MJ did. He also smells when he has the defender on the ropes ready to buckle and he puts in the dagger, just like MJ used to. Kobe is also one of the best perimeter defenders in the game. Kobe won three rings when his team was stacked for three years and MJ won six rings when his team was stacked for six years.

This is easy. While everyone else will be on Micheal, its not him, its Oscar Robertson. The Big O was so dominant in his time. During his career he averaged 25.7 ppg, 9.5 apg and 7.5 rpg. That means that not only was he an excellent scorer, he was great at getting his teammates involved and even played big on the glass. He was also very efficient from the field shooting .485 and .838 from the line. While Micheal Jordan did shoot a ridiculous .497 from the field and average more points at 30.1, his assist were way down as he averaged only 5.3 apg during his career and grabbed 1 less rebound per game. So the Big O had a way more complete game and he even did something that no other player in the NBA has ever done which was average a triple double during a season. where he averaged 30.8 points, 11.4 assist 12.5 rebounds, in just his second season. He almost did it his rookie year where he averages 30.5 points, 10.1 rebounds and 9.7 assist. Clearly the Big O's game was way more complete than Jordan's and clearly he is the best player ever. Even as a veteran he left his mark on the Milwaukee Bucks be teaming up with Lou Alcindor ( Kareem Abdul-Jabbar ) and leading them to the only title ever.

Michael Jordan, hands down. He could score from anywhere on the floor, on any defender, any time he chose to;not to mention he could shut down the opponent's best guard as well. During the Bulls first championship against the Lakers, he defended Vlade Divac as well as Magic Johnson. Michael's size and skills made him the ultimate weapon. He could create a shot for himself or create an open shot for a teammate. His will to win and killer instinct set him apart. There were other talented players, but those players were complete on the offensive end of the floor, not both.

My Dad was the greatest ever because he could shoot and make his free throws and he never got in any trouble. He loved the game. Nobody knew of him because he never played on a team. Naturally anyone on a team is going to get publicity + the teammates will pass the ball to you so you can score. My Dad had no team to make him look good. He did it all by himself while he kept doing his real-life day job. That makes him the greatest.

Micheal Jordan is now. Hes the best because he lead his team to 6 championships.
Lebron, D Wade or Kobe will be considered the best before their careers are over though. The NBA is a lot tougher now then when Jordan played.
