I had dated this arab man (Syria) for about a year when he was doing a fellowship here awhile back, he then moved to California and he then wanted me to fly out an see him while he paid the cost. It didn't last for long since we were to far apart and we both started dating other people. Just recently I got an email from him saying how he still thought about me and missed the things we did together. So he paid to fly me out again. We had a great time and we really got along, like always. Anyway, when I mentioned that I was going on a trip to Ireland for two weeks with a girlfiend of mine he seemed quite surprised, almost like he was a little offended. Then he asked me what my parents thought of me traveling like that. "I'm 39 years old!" Anyway, since I have been back from seeing him, he just wrote me a brief email saying he hoped I made it back safely. Now he is acting stand- offish and I don't know if it was the trip to Ireland that upset him or what? Do you know?

Arab men .
At least those that were brought up in a conventional a middle east family, will not be able to adjust to North American ways.
they have been exposed to express themselves when they are interested in someone they would want to learn more about,
he may have thought you were as interested in him as he was in you. they don't choose right away whom they will be with for the rest of their lives, where as North American women think nothing of a man sending her such expensive air fair and then being told they weren't very interested in them because they are going to spend time away from the relationship he thought they were having.
I wouldn't expect you to understand what i just wrote, but i am sure if you spoke to a person of Arab background they may be able too.

I think it's called control. You can take an Arab out of the Middle East but can't take the Middle East out of the Arab.
