Solitude is good because it lets you think without distractions. When two people are in a room together, it is almost impossible to meditate or think about life issues, problems, etc. And it is equally as hard to enjoy the "silent moment" where you just relax and unwind and not think about too much.
People have a need to talk to each other, which is good, but this interfers with the quiet time that I believe everyone needs every now and then.
I think it's best to interact in a natural way with others, and when you find yourself alone, take advantage of the solitude.

Forgetting all negative aspects, I think solitude is a very important capability of a man who wanna know himself. In our crying loud societies, moments to stay with themselves, surrounded by the things we love, listening to our preferred musics, thinking about our lives, or walking alone in a windy or rainy day observing the other with calm and identifyness (sorry I'm not sure about this word). Really we can change our world going always more deep in ourselves and take more conscience and understanding of the world around us. Then we can dive in the life stronger and, I think, more conscious about what to do. Ciao bellissima.

It is a time to reflect on who we are, what we have done, what we prepare to do without distraction. Solitude is a time to be honest with ourselves. If we cannot do that, with whom can we be honest?

i feel it's necessary when you feel lost and misguided. it's overrated that you must always be with someone or have people who are close to you --- though, of course, it's not the worst idea to live socially.
the best time of my life was at a point where i didn't feel obligated to be there for everyone else. my priority was making sure that i was fine with myself before i was fine with other people. i agree that it gives you the greatest opportunity to figure things out and know who you really are. it's definitely not a cliche even if it sounds like one.

How are you ever going to figure out "What YOU think" if you don't have time to think for yourself.
