Umm...i am a bears fan and i don't think they are the stupidest team in the NFL but they are really close. They should've traded Rex Grossman and gotten alot more out of it. I don't know why they franchised Briggs...he wanted out...so did jones...but why would you want out after your team just made it to the superbowl??? I think they should've kept Jones...traded Grossman or Griese and then put a franchise on Jones next year. I don't know about they bears but they aren't goin down a good path!!!

The Bears' Logic
1. Thomas Jones asked for a trade. He was up for free agency after this year anyway, and he was a parasite in the locker room. The Bears are going to rely more on Benson now, and don't forget that they still have Adrian Peterson who could be a starter on many teams. Also, they were able to move up 30 slots in the draft. It was a good move by the Bears.
2. They didn't fire their Ron Rivera, they just didn't resign him. He was asking for way too much money. Don't forget that it is Lovie Smith's defense. He created it and is the one who calls all the shots on defense. They do not need Ron Rivera. Plus they really like Babich the guy who will be replacing him. Another good move by the Bears.
3. Briggs is a baby and forgot that he signed a contract. How many people out there do you see complaining about 7 million a year? Just Briggs because he's a greedy little bastard. That is going to be a hole the Bears will need to fill if they do trade him. But remember that they also have some young talent at the LB position.
So overall the Bears will be fine for next season. Their defense will be even better when they get Tommy Harris and Mike Brown back from injury. Their offense will also improve as Rex shapes into a better quarterback. Bash Rex all you want, but remember that he had 7 games with a 100 plus passer rating. Bears are going to be the favorite in the AFC and will prove everyone wrong when they win the Superbowl. Hopefully.

Bears arent the studpidest team in the NFL. The Raiders are.
Trading Thomas Jones so Benson will be the starter next year is a good move. Benson young, strong and with more playing time he will be an impact player. He may be a little injury proned, but they can get a draft another good running back in the late rounds.
Bears letting go Coach Rivera and now Briggs the franchise player wanting a trade, there's something going on in the front office that nobody is saying.

I cant but all i know is thats its a rerun of the 85/86 Bears all over again. The same thing happened after the 85/86 season, the team was dismantled piece by precious piece. The Bears are cheap, Thomas jones didnt want to have to fight for the starting job Lovie finally got market value, and Lance Briggs is fed up. And as far as trading Jones for 2 1st round picks is beyond me seems like some gave the Bears the Shaft on that 1. I was 3 years old last time my beloved Chicago team went to the Big Game, and if history tells us anything its that by the next time they get there i will be 44.

No they have not become the stupidest team in the league. They are sticking to their long held belief of developing and using young players. That's been their philosophy for years. They develop talent that they draft. They will always go with young talented and developing players over aging vets. That's why they traded Thomas Jones. They feel Benson is ready to assume a full time load. He's a lot younger. Jones has been in the league 5 years longer then Benson. That's a lot of wear and tear on a running back.

The Bears are who I thought they were...idiots. First they keep Grossman around without addressing the QB position, they franchise Lance Briggs then shop him, then they deal away the only stability they have at running back, which works out great for the J-E-T-S. They have decided to make Benson the man, but I'm not sure it's going to work. Remember the last running back the Bears took high in the draft? His career numbers are 1500 yards, 4 touchdowns in three NFL seasons. That man - Curtis Enis, 5th overall pick in the 1998 draft. The Bears made up for it the next year by drafting Cade McNown, who would be an improvement over Grossman. The running back they drafted before Enis was Rashaan Salaam, who liked to relax with his "recreational drug". The point is, they've been pretty illogical for years now. But when youre winning, it covers up a lot. The Bears losing the Super Bowl just exposed what was already there.

They're about to make the biggest mistake since Tampa Bay dealt away half of their Super Bowl squad in the off-season following the win. They deal Jones away when it should've been Benson instead. They refuse to pay Lovie what they owe him (he's one of a few coaches that actually DESERVE a decent salary).
What I'm saying is there is no logic there. I guess they're hoping for the best draft in a decade or something?

From what I know Jones wanted out of Chicago. Why? I dont know but why keep an unhappy camper around. Besides this will give Benson the oppurunity to earn all that money they pay him and become a featue back.

No Chargers already have that spot.
Fumbling a 4th down play that would have ended the game.
Firing Schottenheimer.
Etc...
The Bears are still in great shape for another playoff run.

I think so. I was stunned to see they traded Jones. If these guys were in charge 30 years ago, they would have given Bobby Douglas a big, extended contract and traded Walter Payton to the Packers.
