how much does adding a second story cost when building a new home?

we are looking at structural ways to save money when building our new home. One level houses that are bigger or a smaller two story house?

Two story house is cheaper. Less excavation and concrete for the foundation. And you have twice the living space with the same amount of roof area and all pipes can be ran together if the bathrooms are above one another.

not sure.... but I can tell you that you might want to check the zoning regulations... because you might not even be allowed to do it
