I'm black and am engaged to an asian/caucasian man and we have a one year-old daughter. We live in a medium sized suburb outside Detroit. The minority population in this suburb is probably less than 5%. We LOVE this town, though. We've made nothing but friends here and no one has ever disrespected us in any way whatsoever. Most people go out of their way to make you feel at home when you're the minority, too.

So, any city is the best, really. It's all in how you make it. Some might take a little getting used to - like a small southern town that doesn't really have many mixed couples, but i'm sure even there, there will be people who will treat you just like anyone else.

Believe it or not, people WANT to get over this whole race thing. But some of us continue to keep it going with our presupposed notions and stereotypes. We automatically think a predominantly white town won't accept blacks or minorities. These people aren't like that. They just don't accept the morons and that goes for all races.

Just relax and allow people to show you that we're not all racist bigots. You'll find, as did I, that people just want to get to know eachother and learn from eachother. I see it all the time.

I would hope that any city in the USA would welcome any couple. I guess the reality is that we have not become that civilized yet. I would say the major cities like New York City, Boston, Chicago, Miami,New Orleans, Huston, Los Angeles, San Francisco and Seattle. I live in Wesrchester County, N.Y. and we have two interracial couples in our building and you could not ask for nicer people. Personally, I don't think that it is as big an issue as it was years ago.
