Nelson di have both eyes. He wore a patch to help make-up his pension because it looked good on paper to pretend it was badly injured.

The point is that you do not have to deal with what you don't see. In other words, "Choose your battles". This is especially true when dealing with children. As a parent, one will not win every battle. So choose the battles that are most important.
Of course, turning a blind eye can have disastrous results. Ignoring a person screaming for help because one does not want to get involved can lead to extremely negative results for the screaming person!

Personally, I don't like turning a blind eye! I'd rather not know in the first place!

It's from Admiral Nelson (who had one eye) deliberately putting his telescope to his blind eye and then stating (without lying) "I see no ships"

It is deliberately turning your blind eye (as opposed to your seeing eye) to something that you are pretending you cannot see but that you know is happening

No not at all
it means you see, but do not record ,what you have seen

You overlook a fault.

eg.

The interviewer , is aware of the applicants long and untidy hair , but turns' a blind eye' to this , as his exam results and aptitude tests prove, to be, up to the standard required .

Depends what you're turning a blind eye to! Sometimes it's the best thing to do, sometimes not!

I like to turn my eyes back into my head. Freaks out people at meetings, makes them more interesting.

Depends how blind the eye is.
If it can make out shapes then it may be worth turning.
If not then i wouldn't bother.

There may be more negative consequences to knowing something than to simply ignore it. Only the recipient of those consequences can decide.
