The earth was captured and is held in orbit by the sun's gravity, it's true, but the momentum of the planet was already there. Long before the sun's gravity dies, the sun will turn into a red giant, and expand out to the orbit of Mars - and Mars and all the plantes orbiting closer to the sun, will be swallowed up and vaporized. The sun will exist in this state for quite a few million years, then abruptly collapse inward upon ittsself, creating a spectacular sight called a "nova", and over the next few millions of years, will go through a stage known as a "brown dwarf" (it's won't be massive enough to become a "white dwarf") and eventually fade out and leave behind a small, dense clump of material which in turn will eventually dissipate into the vastness of space and be heard of no more. Humankind will have long since become extinct, so nobody will be around to witness these awesome events.

One of the things would be that the part of the Earth that is facing the sun, will be warm and tropical... while the part that is on the other side facing away from the sun will become a polar ice cap. One side would have daylight all the time, the other will be in total darkness. So, I guess that one half of the earth's population, animals, and plants will die off.

If the Earth stoped revolving around the sun, we would become another of the lifeless rocks. We would probably get caught in the orbit of the asteroid belt or become a satalite (moon) for one of the bigger planets eventually buy we wouldn't be around to see that.

your assumptions about gravity are all wrong. but if the earth didnt have a star to revolve around, it would just become a lifeless rock driffting through interstellar space!!!

it will either be day or night all the time and according to ian the world will combust because the suns rays will burn a hole through the atmoshpere then we will burn and the ice caps will melt and flood everything and then poof.

We'd be pulled into the sun. All life would die on earth before that ever happened though.
