Is there a reason why it's deeper in the middle and more shallow at the 2 sides?

A deeper pool is better for less turbulence so the swimmers are not swimming in waves.

A deeper pool is a calmer pool.

Not all Olympic sized pools (50 Meters) are deeper in the middle. A majority of them are all one depth--all the way across.

Usually between 8-10 feet or 2-3 meters deep

Not ALL Olympic sized pools are deeper in the middle.

I swim with Irvine Novaquatics in the pool they use for Nationals, and it's 7 feet deep the whole way across.
