I had a long drive Sunday as me & my partner went for a day out in London, however I am 28 & a half weeks pregnant. For the past week I have been getting horrible period type cramps at the bottom of my belly & on Sunday whilst driving home I was getting sharp shooting pains in my right ovary (or in that area) and tightening cramps in my belly which were also going right round to my lower back as well. They lasted for around 2 and a half hours & were about 6 minutes apart (or there abouts). I have had them on & off every since but the period type cramp & back pain is something I am struggling with everyday? Are these just Braxton Hicks or maybe a sign things may set off a little early? I don't know if this makes a difference but I have also had diareahea for a few days & i know this can. Please help a first time mum which doesn't really know whats going on, I have an appointment with my midwife tomorrow @ 3pm but just thoughts I'd ask your oppinions before i see her. Thank you Gemma.

Hi guys,

Thanks for answers so far, I have had no bleeding but still having the cramps daily & also the twinges in my lower back & sides. Last night trying to sleep was a nightmare, waking up every hour or so, tossing & turning with cramps.

Please, do not catagorize these cramps as braxton hicks contractions. You could actually be in labor. You need to go to the emergency room so they can hook you up to the moniters and check to see if you are actually having contractions. Braxton hicks contractions are just a tightening of the stomach muscles, they are NOT supposed to hurt.

My son tried to enter the world at 28 weeks, and they had to stop the labor. Then he tried again at 34 weeks, and once again they had to stop the labor. At 41 weeks, they had to induce me, because I guess he decided he wasn't going to try again. LOL. Go figure.

Good luck, and I hope everything goes good for you and your new baby. Congratulations!

I was having the same thing when iw as about 32 weeks pregnant... My doctor wanted to check me for an infection, especially appentitis... have you called you OB and told them about this? i think they may want you to come in just to get it checked out.. It could be a kidney infection also or a cyst on your right ovary. I have already had 2 cysts on my right ovary, they just come and go when they please. They gave me bad pains on my right side alot.

Another way to check for appentitis is to push on your stomache not hard and see if it hurts a lot.... Also the pain would start around your belly button.

Other things.. Round ligament pains which im sure you heard of. They are moer of the sharper feelings and you will be gettin them a lot now... Braxton hicks.. Uhmm They are more of a tighten in your stomache, if you get these pains come again, see if your stomache gets hard and for how long. Drink a glass of water and lay on your left side..

1 more thing could be a UTI, and you definitly want to get checked up on that cause it can cause preterm labor!!

Hope all this info helps!! Good luck

The B.H. occur throughout your pregnancy. Getting stronger and more frequent the closer you get to delivery.
I'm not very knowledgeable about midwives, but they don't have medical licenses do they? If not and you haven't seen an OB/GYN at all, I would strongly suggest you do so. It would be a wise move to check with one not only about your diarrhea, but also make sure that your pregnancy is progressing normally with no risks.Your age and family history are important factors. Have you had all your blood tests? Are you being monitored for Iron, Diabetes, etc? I hope you have been. Good Luck. Let me know how you make out.
