No! 1 yard = 3 feet and so 1 square yard = 3 X 3 = 9 square feet.

No a square yard is just a square that measures a yard on all 4 sides... and a square foot is the same, only it measures one foot on all 4 sides

No way! a yard is already 3 feet! So a square yard is 9ft squared, and a square foot is only 1ft squared! There is quite a difference...

12 inches squared (1 foot) vs 36 inches sqaured (1yard) is what you get when converted to a common unit so no they are not the same.

so 144 inches vs 1296 inches or when reduced = 1 vs 9

and your answer is thus that 1 square foot is 1/9 of a sqaure yard.

12 x 12 = 144 square inches

3 feet = 36 inches

36 x 36 = 1296 square inches

They are not the same
