No, and no. A square foot is the area of a rectangle measuring 1 foot by 1 foot. A square yard is 1 yard by 1 yard. As there are three feet in a yard, there are 9 square feet in a square yard.

Yep, they're the same. And both of them are the same as a square mile. Now that I'm done laughing, and assuming you really don't know, the answer is, no, of course not. Not any more than a foot and a yard are the same. A square measures the same on all sides, therefore, a square that measures one foot x one foot will give you, duh, one sq.ft..(1 x 1). A sq.yd. measures three feet on all sides so you get three feet x three feet which will give you nine sq.ft. (3 x 3). If you don't know about surface area, you get the surface area of a square by multiplying the length of two sides of the square. If you want the surface area of a rectangle, you would multiply the length by the width. And if you want the surface area of a circle, take pi and multiply it by, well, maybe we should just save that for another day.

No. Yard and Feet are different measurements. 3 feet is equivalent to 1 yard. So when your thinking about square feet and square yards, you multiple your square feet by 9 to get the square yards.

If I have understand your question correctly you are asking if one square yard is the same size as one square foot. The answer to that is "Obviously not, a square foot is smaller than a square yard". However, if I have misunderstood you, my apologies.

cheers,

1 square yard(SY) is equal to yard * yard.
1 square foot(SF) is equal to foot * foot.
1 yard is equal to 3 feet.

SY = yard * yard = 3 feet * 3 feet = 9 SF

Therefore, a square yard is 9 times greater than a square foot.

I'm no expert, but I think one square yard would be 3 ft by 3 ft. One square foot would be 1 ft by 1 ft.
