it means copy the songs from the CD to your hard disk so that next time you want to listen to them you don't have to insert the cd.

It could mean two things.
1. Burning a CD. Which is making a mixture of songs from your computer and placing the tracks onto a CD.
2. A DJ playing a mix. As in ripping records at the club.

ripping a cd is when you take a cd and copy the music from it to your PC
with a CD writer it more or less rips the tracks off the disc and copies them to you computer (it dont damage the orginal disc by the way)

Take the songs on a CD and turn them to mp3 or wma or other media files. Burning is when you put those media files onto a cd to be played in a cd player.

I thought just putting it on another cd was just called copying?
