it means copy the songs from the CD to your hard disk so that next time you want to listen to them you don't have to insert the cd.

1. Burning a CD. Which is making a mixture of songs from your computer and placing the tracks onto a CD.

2. A DJ playing a mix. As in ripping records at the club.

To "rip" a cd means to copy the music on that cd and either put it onto another cd or the computer.

ripping a cd is when you take a cd and copy the music from it to your PC
with a CD writer it more or less rips the tracks off the disc and copies them to you computer (it dont damage the orginal disc by the way)

I thought just putting it on another cd was just called copying?
