You can't turn back time....but you can use it as a guide to the future. Think for only a second on the word "PAST". Mistakes are not mistakes, until you realize them. Once you determine you've made an error in judgment or performance, you've acknowledged that mistake and you can move to correct it. only a FOOL will continue to make the same mistakes over and over, without learning. The only time you should think yourself a Fool is when you don't use your experience as positive energy to move forward, leaving the past where it belongs...in the past.

I would also like to turn back time sometimes and correct simple mistakes which however had horrible consequences. And what makes me crazy is when I had the knowledge to avoid the mistake, I shouldn't have done it if only I had thought out all the parametres...
Unfortunately, this is impossible, and some things torment me an entire lifeand the thought of the specific mistakes never leaves me. I think the best way to deal with it is think about it, think what the correct solution would have been, and come to terms with being human. Trying to forget is no good, but realizing that we are far from being perfect is what we need. And learn from your mistakes, in order not to repeat them. An ancient greek saying says: A wise man doesn't make the same mistake twice.

You have to forgive yourself first. Everybody messes up. Trying to stop remembering our mistakes though is pretty hard and constantly rehashing old errors can be self defeating.

Here's some tricks to use to get rid of memories of old failures that you've already learned from and can't seem to let yourself live down.

Find a poem or passage that is inspiring to you and memorize it. It should be fairly long. The next time you start to remember that mistake, recite the poem in your head to help distract yourself.

Visualize the memory as an object and then visualize a trash can that you can chuck it into, or visualize the object you have associated the memory with being destroyed in some other complete and satisfying way.

Listen to music whenever the memory starts to bug you. Try to pick something that puts you in a positive mood.

Tell someone nonjudgemental about your errors. You might just need to get stuff off your chest.

If you think your mistake has hurt someone, try to atone for it. Do some sort of relevant volunteer work, apologize without expectation of acceptance from someone you've hurt. Sometimes though, you might not be able to make amends and you have to accept it and go on.

Come up with plans of action so that next time you are in a situation similar to the one where you made a painful mistake, you can make a better choice for yourself.

Don't expect so much perfection from yourself, and don't fall into the trap of believing that others don't mess up too. Anyone who tells you they don't make mistakes is a liar.

Unfortunately time cannot go back nor any mistakes we have made in the past. If you think about past mistakes you are not a fool, a fool is some one who physically continues to do the same thing over and over and expects to get a different result. . WE all have regrets and they will never be forgotten don't focus on the past learn from it and look to the future of your life, and set goals for your self stick with them when you slip don't beat yourself up press forward do the best you can.And in the end if you can look back and say I did the best I could, you will have nothing to regret. God Bless

I have the same problem. I would like to go back and change lots of things I know now that I should have done different. It can make you crazy. I have learned this, you learn from your mistakes, so therefore it teaches us not to do it again, hopefully. It has to do with our consciousness and if we are going to do something again that was a mistake in the past our brain should say HEY! we did this once and look where it got us. Then I tend to think about it and it will stop me from doing what I should not be. I am not sure what your mistakes are, but mine are finances and marriage issues. I am bipolar and my dr has told me that is the reason for a lot of my behavior. But, that is not an excuse. I have to stop and think about things before I do it. Then realize if it is not something I should not be doing I need to back out and stay away from it.

Most people go through a period of looking back in anger or regret. We all think of the decisions we should have made and the opportunities we missed. But we cannot do that all the time because it is not useful to our growth except other than warning us of our past tendencies. Most mistakes were made because we were too young.

You can shake all that off now. You are older. Change your future so your whole life won't be regrettable. Start by deciding your future goals and what you think can be accomplsihed to make your future better. Let the past serve only to remind you of your mistakes and then release them. You deserve that now. Be well. Good Luck. @8-)

First of all stop thinking of them as mistakes I call them character building experiences and I have a ton of character! Try to use past experiences as learning tools and don't make the same mistake again. Everyone has things in their past that they regret what matters is how you put a positive spin on them. I would not be the wonderful compassionate person that I am today had I not spent half my life being a major f*ck up good luck to you and if life gives you lemons make me a vodka tonic

Spending time worrying about past mistakes is in vein. The past is gone and there is nothing you can do to change it. Learn from your mistakes and take that knowledge forward with you and use it in your decision making going forward. Live for today and look to the future. Looking back will get you nowhere.

That is the thing, you can't change the past. All you can do is say I'm sorry, mean it and make the future better. Don't make the same mistake twice. That's what I had to do.
