There are a lot of people who are very dedicated to practicing medicine and are vying for placement in medical school. If you do not want to practice medicine (and believe me, they will ask you why you DO want to practice medicine during the interview), then don't. Let a serious candidate take that place in school.

The reasons you have listed for going to med school (not wanting to renege on admissions, not wanting to disappoint friends and family, wanting personal prestige) are all HORRIBLE reasons to go.

Get a PhD. If you like biology, focus on that. There is a lot of research in biomedical science that does not require a medical degree. You could get a PhD in physiology and be a professor. You could work in pharmaceuticals. You could design prostheses. Otherwise, find a field that truly satisfies you. Maybe you actually like literature?

There are plenty of people (like me) whose sole life ambition is to be a physician, and they don't appreciate people like you taking up space in medical schools.

The title 'MD' is not just a degree. Medicine is a practice that takes compassion for people, appreciation for life, commitment to career, an insatiable curiosity and quest for knowledge as well as a certain finesse.

A medical degree costs a lot of money to get. Why would you want to go into debt for something that won't use? Unless you want to do research or something? I don't understand what the problem is. Either get the degree or don't. It's simple.

You can become a medical examiner. Your patients never complain and you simply bury your mistakes.
