Hybrid is a stop gap measure to reduce the use of gasoline and reduce pollutants it is not the answer. The use of hydrogen cells in cars is the future and it is what GM is banking on (they do not make hybrids) and that is what they are trying to develop. Hydrogen cell cars provide performance, require no fossil fuels and put out zero pollutants. The sooner we get hydro cars the sooner the Arab countries can kill each other off and live in the sand without harming others. Hydro man read up on it, it has no critics. Hybrid is great for now but is dated technology. It could be here the everyday car in less than 20 years.

A hybrid has the potential to beat any car off the line except for perhaps a steam car. because initial acceleration is a matter of low end torgue delivered to the wheels. For ultimate top however, the addition of an electrical plant just takes away from the efficiency and power to weight ratio of the vehicle. - so the question is what you mean by 'high' performance.

Hybrid - not really. You need to go all out electric to get good performance (or all out petrol - but we all know the problems with that).

Maybe you've heard of the Tesla Roadster? I saw on TV where this all-electric car beat a Porsche. 0-60 mph in 4 seconds. 2007 model year sold out in 4 months. They're importing them already into California. Electric motors in each wheel create pure torque.

it can but it is a lot harder to reach that high performance as a non hybrid...the acceleration is so much worse in hybrids
