Well, I'd classify traditional dance as ballet, which is very classical, and has changed little over the years. It involves very precise turns, leaps, steps, and head, foot, hand, arm, leg, and body positions. Women usually wear toe shoes, and for performances, tutus or long tulle skirts, or occasionally more flowing dresses. Interpretation is done through (among other things) expression, posture, motion and a form of sign language that is just for the dance.

Modern is less structured though not necessarily easier. Modern dancers typically wear soft shoes, the stage decor is usually simple if not all black or white. The movements are more flowing and free-form, and interpretation is more raw and intuitive. The costumes are usually simple as well, often just unitards or simple dresses for the women. There is a lot of running around and rolls and the dancers will do a lot of their dancing on the floor (not standing). It's also usually done to more recent music that usually has no lyrics and a very distinct "mood"

To answer your 1st question - Yes. I LOVE Dancing! I take ballet, tap, rythm tap, jazz, broadway, lyrical, stretch & strength, modern, and hip-hop.

To answer your second question - It depends on what your talking about. Example - In tap, there is traditional and conteporary. In trad. "heel, brush, toe, heel" is called "Paddle Rolls", but in contemp. "heel, brush, toe, heel" is called "Paradiddles". The same move, (almost) but call different things and done 2 different ways. Now, if you are talking about the type of dance "Modern", modern is a way of dance created in the 80's. It is like Jazz and Lyrical mixed. Flexed feet, sudden sharp movements. Dance has changed over the years, (thats for sure) and things have gotten a lot more "dirtyer".
