It is difficult to move from one place to another and be will all new people and unfamiliar surroundings. There is one adage however which hold true. "If the people were nice where you left, they will be nice where you go."
One good thing is you won't have to learn a new language. There will be a few colloquial expressions that are different and the accent will be different but that will be it.

Yes, it's very difficult. I did the opposite and moved from the UK to here, but only due to marriage, which made it a lot easier.

working for a british company in new york i can tell you that yes its hard but the usa is great and your money will be worth a lot mroe here. go for it for at least a year. worst comes to worst you can always head home after that time.
