Does anyone remember an old cartoon about a boy and a train?

I'm trying to remember an old cartoon from I believe the late 70's early 80's. I live in Canada, so this may have been a Canadian show, but for some reason I believe it may have been American in origin.

It was about a young boy who lived in a city. He found a train in a trainyard near his neighbourhood which would "come to life" so to speak, and travel from this city into a fantasy world and take him on all sorts of adventures. Within this fantasy world he had a friend. His friend was a girl with yellow star-shaped hair.

Does anyone remember this cartoon andr what it was called? It's driving me crazy!!

I found the answer on another website. It was called The Secret Railroad and was a Canadian show on Global Television which began airing in 1978. Great show!
