Best military movie, hands down, Is Stanley Kubrick's "Path's of Glory". Amazing movie. Great ending. I adore movies that don't subscribe to the generic endings.

Saving Private Ryan I would say next. Just because I saw it in the theatre and the opening shot when they stormed the beach at Normandy made me more uncomfortable than I had felt in a while. Amazing power to that film.

I enjoy Full Metal Jacket for the beginning when they were in basic training, the good old days when the drill instructors were allowed to hit and give tough training to the recruits and didn't have to worry about being "sensitive" to the recruits who they are training to fight and go to war.

I also enjoy Patton, now that is a real general! Not like these spineless limp wrists we have in now who are afraid to gut our enemies and kill them before they behead us or slit our throats in the name of Allah! Oh to have General Patton and General Eisenhower in command, we would have been almost, if not, already done with this mess by now.

For Sci-Fi, I enjoy Starship Troopers, despite taking drastic changes from the novel, it was still an enjoyable film. Plus, having Michael Ironside in it sold me. Kickass actor he is.

Other mentions: Rambo: First Blood, Hamburger Hill, Sniper, and Apocalypse Now.

All Quiet on the Western Front. Read the book in high school and learned from my grandpa at the time that it was his favorite movie because it was the first one he saw in a theater when he was a kid. Even though it wasn't a talkie, the movie is pretty powerful.

My other favorite isn't about a war, but a military school, does that count? TAPS with George C. Scott, Timothy Hutton, Tom Cruise and Sean Penn. Great movie.

APOCALYPSE NOW!: directed by Francis Ford Coppola: it´s an intelligent and bold Military-war movie. Not the usual "bullet movie". Marlon Brando made an extraordinary performance, the sound and cinematography are excellent. No doubt is the best Military film ever.

Starting to warm up to Full Metal jacket. Actually a much more relevant Vietnam movie than Platoon. You get to see how ridiculous war is in it and really know the characters in something that resembles a bunch of snap shots.
