I think your idea is a good one. I also think it would be a good idea to bring back apprenticeships, like plumbing, bricklaying etc, at 'tech'. The Government was so keen on "Education, Education, Education" that it made University the only choice after school and not everyone wants to go to University or has the wherewithal to get through a course, which was probably chosen by the careers teacher.

We have by now all the research we need to demonstrate that some students are not suited to University. They don't like the course, are disruptive to others, they never do any work, the assignments are poorly done or not at all; they are not awful students - they have literally been sold the wrong commodity and an expensive commodity it is when a student drops out. They owe thousands of pounds and believe it or not the taxpayer has also lost thousands.

A good question and a good proposal. Are you at Uni? - if you are you could use this as your dissertation topic.

Do you really think they would accept kids at college with that background as their "credentials?" I doubt very much that local organizations would want to "babysit" a bunch of teens while trying to find work around the community for them. Only a few of the teens would take the project seriously.

Great idea, but who would run it, don`t fancy `encouraging` a gang of teenagers who don`t fancy doing as they are asked. National Service is another great idea but the same problem arises. Modern youth are used to having their own way and would not take kindly to the discipline needed. Youngsters who know where they are going in life don`t need these measures, those who don`t won`t accept these measures

Thye should have the choice of compulsory education OR national service OR travel (work experience) outside the UK, all 3 create a lot of new skills and force kids to become responsible adults.
