The following are literacy rates in Middle Eastern nations for women. The numbers represent the ratio of literate women to men. (100% means men and women have equal literacy rates):
UAE...100%
Israel.....90-99%
Jordan...80-89%
Syria...80-89%
Saudi Arabia...80-89%
Oman...80-89%
Iran...80-89%
Morocco...60-69%
Egypt...60-69%
Algeria...60-69%
Tunisia...60-69%
Libya...60-69%
Iraq...30-59%
Yemen...30-59%
The midrange for Muslim countries seems to be that about 7 women are literate for every 10 men.
Do you think there is discrimmination in these countries against women?

Interesting answers. I exuected literacy rates to be lower in most of these countries based on statistics from the 1980s. It seems Middle Eastern countries have improved.
Despite what you may think about cultural or religions discrimination, education is a cure for both, and it's a good measure of the future of a nation.

it is a very common misconception, but the treatment of women in middle-eastern countries is not tied to religion, but rather a cultural thing. It is tradition in those countries, not islam. and to many women in those countries the treatment they receive is respectful, not discriminative.

The thing of it is, they play with words, so they wouldn't call it discrimination. They would say Allah intended some things for women and some things for men and that's the way it has to be.
The West does it too. Someone here pointed out that there are not a lot of women in computer work (IT) which is kinda true. Do we keep women out of that, no.

There's been a spread of extremism in some Muslim countries, where women are not educated at all, but according to Islam, men and women must get equal education, it's an obligation, and it's a sin if siblings don't get the equal amount of education. now lets bring in Poverty in, some families are really poor and can't afford to educate all their children. So they only educate the boys, who when they grow up have to support themselves and their families, while the women would have the support of her husband. So i don't believe it's discrimination, it's poverty and in some cases extremism.

No, I think that these are people who can't afford to get a quality education. Many of these people live out in the country and make little to no money. It is even hard for them to feed themselves. So please, when you say something like this, direct it toward a country, place, etc, NOT an entire religion.
Thank you for not taking offense to this answer in advance.

Muslims no matter what gender are always encouraged to learn..It's even in the Koran, for those countries who have a low percentage... it must be cultural. By the way each country has different customs...
