Ann Coulter said: "I was going to have a few comments on the other Democratic presidential candidate, John Edwards, but it turns out that you have to go into rehab if you use the word ****** so I'm kind of at an impasse."

Do you find this comment offensive?

These people do.

Several Republican presidential candidates quickly distanced themselves from Coulter. As the New York Times reported, Rudy Giuliani called the remarks "completely inappropriate," a spokesman for John McCain said they were "wildly inappropriate," and an aide to Mitt Romney called the comments "offensive."

“Ann Coulter is known for comments that can be both provocative and outrageous. That was certainly the case in her 2007 CPAC appearance and previous ones as well. But as a point of clarification, let me make it clear that ACU and CPAC do not condone or endorse the use of hate speech,” said David A. Keene, American Conservative Union Chairman.

The closest person I can compare the Coultergeist to, on the left, is Rosie O'Donnell. Both seem to have the inclination to regularly say outrageous things that get people all stirred up.

The difference is that, among conservatives, Coulter is actually viewed as some sort of scholar and given a forum within the conservative establishment.

Whereas you would never see O'Donnell speaking at a prestigious Democratic event with presidential candidates present, etc.

Sweet little Ann is a conservative journalist and that from the basic means that she is someone who writes things just to gain attention and the more criticism the more money she makes. She is no worse than the flakes on the left. Thanks God the right and left X each other out at the ballot box which is why we get moderate Presidents. Bush is a moderate not a conservative. He did not make sweeping change to anything even when he had a Republican controlled Congress, nor did Clinton do much of anything radical when he controlled the government. So people who bark from the right and left are really just barking dogs. People vote for moderate candidates and issues ranging from gun control to abortion are issues that have not changed greatly with Rep and Dem Presidents in office. Coulter is a loud mouth who knows how to make money and she gains attention because she is not bad looking and knows how to shock. She does not speak for the Republican Party and they have no need to apologize for her comments as she holds no official status. Its important for leftists to say things phrased like this question to say that the Republicans are moving away from her comments, she does not speak for them. Start thinking in terms of consensus in this country, the right and left extremes are what is wrong here.

I love it how some of these people say "I admire her for speaking her mind". Name-calling, saying hateful things and spewing mouth diarrhea is not admirable. Anybody can do that. I admire people who make rational, thoughtful and intelligent arguments. I was looking at some of Coultergeist's interviews. She often takes a long time to answer and frequently responds with "I don't know". She's basically a witless media-whore who says offensive and outrageous things simply to get her name in the papers and on TV.

People today are so used to racial and sexual epithets being tossed around on the street that when they happen to hear one on television they are numbed to it. That is too bad.

A person such as Ann Coulter, who lives in and by the media, must have known she was being recorded and that this would gain her some attention. She may have felt, as they say in show business--I don't care what you say about me, just spell my name right.

While not 'politically correct' she obviously doesn't have others to weigh and measure her comments prior to making them. I didn't view her comments to be an attempt to incite others or to show contempt even though obviously not well chosen comments. I would much prefer to hear those who speak openly than the 'front' runners of both parties who say what they (or their speech writers) have determined the public wants to hear. Lets spend out time being concerned about the important and pressing issues (and we have plenty).

you're saying, and that i quote, "It replaced into all rather glaring to us". are you able to define the be conscious "us" please ? Do you propose the Ann Coulter followers, the impressive-wing Republicans, the uneducated, the "i think something I hear" people ? on the grounds that whilst is Ann Coulter a source of valid suggestions ? the only element she says, that i admire, is "thank you and robust night". She is almost a famous-day Archie Bunker - and he or she is in all probability your idol. unhappy, very unhappy.

Because it's people like Ann Coulter who personify rude , ignorant, arrogant nasty Republicans and the GOP is trying to move away from that image and become more centrist and less narcisstic and mean thus more popular with the GOPs and other voters who aren't like that. She's showing what a rankist, homophobe she really is by those comments.

Why? Because some conservatives are smart enough to distance themselves from the image of intolerance that has been the "hallmark" of GOP advocates like colter and limbaugh.

The word f a g g o t is very offensive due to the meaning of it. Of course, everyone has been called names in their lives and most don't let it get to them. Unless of course, it's true. Thank you.

Conservatives don't like it when someone beats up on a weak person, just because they can, even if it's true.
