I love it when people say it is their constitutional right. It is also our right to express discontent. I would think it unfortunate to public debate if people were not punished by public opinion for saying stupid things even though that is an exercise of a constitutional right. they have a right to be wrong and I have a right and an obligation to tell them they are wrong.

The media says they were snubbed by ACM, but even though I love the Dixie Chicks I think it was right that they weren't nominated. Country music turned it's back on the chicks and in return they switched genres.

That said, their roots are country and you can still hear it in their music. I do think it would have been nice if they at least got a nod from ACM, even if they had no chance of winning, just as an effort to put the whole controversy in the past where it belongs. I think it's stupid that the country music industry is holding such a grudge.

They do sing country and bill themselves as country artists. Their following (and yes they do have a staunch fan base) is largely lovers of country music. But like all artists they want their music to crossover to the mainstream and not necessarily be limited to one genre.

Many country artists, Shania Twain, LeeAnn Rimes, Garth Brooks to name a few, have had mainstream hits.

And can you blame them? When country music all but turned their backs on the Dixie Chicks for voicing their opinion about the president....which by the way is their right as guaranteed by the Constitution.

I'm no 'Chicks' fan, not into country, but their song, "Not Ready to Make Nice" is a good song. And I applaud them for standing their ground and sticking together...and the fans that have stuck with them...not letting DJs and radio stations dictate how they should act and what they should say.

They sing a genre of pop country music. It's becoming more and more popular to blend multiple genres together. Lot's of artists have done, though country/pop seems to be the most popular.

So are the technically country? Probably not. But they definitely have roots in country and a very country style to them. And regardless of people's opinions, be it political or actually musically determined, they still have a country base.

Technically they sing what is called "Pop Country", which, unfortunately, is seen as part of country music.

They didn't. I don't see how they won so many Grammys. They only released one song and it wasn't realy that popular. The Grammy voters probably voted for them because they made bad remarks torward president Bush.

They don't? I think it's their style of music that places them there even though they say they dont want to be associated with the genre that banned them, across the country. Those girls can still play!
