You must be having your PAN card with you, compare the number with it.
You can verify the correctness of your PAN number with that of the covering letter sent to you along with PAN card.
You are supposed to hold your PAN card with youonly.
You cannot deliver your PAN Card to any body, only certified copies can be given as proof.
If you loose your card for any reason, inform the issuing autority immediately and apply for a duplicate.

Go to this site, enter the details asked for and it will tell you what your PAN as per income tax records is. See if its the same number on your card. If yes, be happy, if not, then you need to write to the tax authorites to correct their records.
