They are desperate and trying to impress the people they consider too dumb to know the difference between when they are being made fools of and being honestly campaigned. They obviously fell for it becuase they were all cheering as they were being insulted to their faces. Stoops.....

Give me a break. They're all patronizing.
Have you listened to Bush when he's making a speech in Europe or to the UN? All of a sudden he has no accent. He speaks like a normal human being. Then listen to him give a campaign speech and it's right back to the good ole cowboy redneck voice. Amazing how quickly he can change a terrorist into a tarrist.

its called politics, a politician has to be accepted by his or her target audience, they must have some kind of connection, its all psychological but take a look at the bill clinton campaign, he wore flannels for the farmers, died his hair many times, changed his demeanor to every audience he had just to get in office, besides they spend alot of money targeting the different types of audiences they will speak to, thats what a great campaign manager does for you, all they do is put on the show

It's called appeasing the crowd and yes, they do think the people they are speaking to are stupid. But guess what, we are not stupid at all. For Java Jive (above)- sweetie you are dead wrong, us Southern folks are mighty smart and we can spot a jack@ss in a New York minute when we see or hear one!!!

Maybe they are both a bit like me...unconsciously, I seem to pick up on accents...one state over here I lived in was predominately English, so everyone there thought I was a Pom...then I moved to another state, and they thought I was a Kiwi (New Zealander)...
So now, I stay put, I would love to move to USA but am much afraid of being accused of being a Yank while being there !!...I would much prefer to be treated as the Aussie that I am...(special) !!

It's disturbing. I can understand that if you've lived in a certain region for a few years you can pick up the accent, but it usually doesn't happen in 5 minutes. I actually feel sorry for Hillary because she always tries to be somebody she's not. She's really a sad excuse for a human being.

they are looking for support and making a big mistake by trying to relate to the demographic group they are speaking to in this manner. i hope the voting public keeps this in mind come 2008.

Some people uncounsciously pick up accents like that. Its like a reflex or something. The same thing happens to me, I speak to an australian and I get the australian accent, I speak to a brit and I get the brit accent.

it involves a subconsious relating. of course they know, but it is used so that they can communicate in a manner that takes the unfamiliarity out of the equasion.
