Well, they say "Never judge a book by the cover." I would buy a book of an unknown author if the jacket description sounded interesting but not just because the cover looked cool. Did you write a book and are wondering if the cover would help sell it or are you in a bookstore right now?

I always judge a book by its cover or the author that writes it. So far I have been very pleased with all the books I have bought over the years doing this method. Sometimes I will look on the back or inside cover to see what the story is about to see if it might interest me. But I am as guilty as charged to judge a book by its cover, I am able to decide for myself if it will be good enough or not for me.

Is the subject matter one I enjoy? Does the blurb sound interesting? After flipping through a couple of pages, does the author's style impress me?
Yes, I do look at bookcovers, but because the production value of the cover is an indication of the professionalism of the publisher. Particularly among independent publishers and self-published writers. A crappy book cover is normally an indication of a "do-it-all-yourself" person with little clue how to produce a professional product. If little care was put into the cover, chances are little care was put into things like editing, proofreading, etc as well.
So while I don't care if the cover is a masterpiece, I do expect it to look professionally created.

I would. I buy or borrow books based on the cover all the time. A book with a good cover is important. It's a little preview as to what treasures may lay inside. I don't hold much with that saying you can't judge a book by it's cover. I can and I do. Although sometimes I can be pleasantly surprised by a boring bookcover. Not often but it does happen.

I do all the time. However the cover is only a partial factor anytime I buy a book. I always read the book jacket/ back cover story blurb and the first few lines on the first page.

Sure! sometimes i look for books that dont have anyhting on the cover.. keeps life interesting. If this is relating to judging people, i dont mean to say that i go out looking for people who dont have a face, but then again if i did run into a person with no facial features, i wouldnt promise a fair judgement either. That would be just plain odd.

Im more of a first pg person. If the first pg is interesting then I will read/buy the book. Has nothing to do with the cover. Although the cover would get my attn.

I don't buy books by looking at their cover or considering the author. I must read the synopsis and the first page.

If the cover looked interesting I would pick the book up.
Then I would start to read snippets of it, from different pages.
If I thought the writing was engaging and I wanted to read some more, I would buy the book, irrespective of the author's name.
