You could invent an entire mythical world, e.g. C.S. Lewis (Narnia) or J.R.R. Tolkien (Middle Earth), or set your story in a world that is part real, part fantasy e.g. J.K. Rowling's 'Harry Potter' series.
The important things are:
Use or adapt well-known mythical creatures, or invent your own. The important thing is to make them believeable. Although the general theme of the story would be some kind of conflict, i.e. 'good' versus 'evil', no single character should be completely one or the other. 'Good' characters should have their shortcomings and 'evil' characters should have some good in them.
Plotline that holds the tension. Keep the reader wondering what is coming over the next page. End each chapter on a 'cliffhanger'.
Put twists and turns in the plot (but not too many).
Use humour where appropriate. E.g. when in great danger, people (and other creatures) often joke - it's a way of coping with the fear.
If you are serious about writing you could join a writers' group. The best way to learn how to write is meet other writers, read out your work to them and get feedback.

I couldn't write a book to save my life, but I have had this idea for some time now.. Let's imagine that mainstream religion didn't take hold, we all know the names ,so I won't type them.. We remain Pagan and true to the Earth Mother religion that is 40,000 yrs old and still alive and well today.. How much do you think this Planet would be different ? No Whaling , minimal pollution, no greedy politicians and their greedy mates in big business..If you truly understand the concept I am talking about ,this World would be still stone age in one way ,but modern in another.. Wars I suppose would still happen as that is the nature of some, but no threats of total annihilation.. Just a thought I have, I would read a fantasy, historic book like this and it would stay in the bookshelf with my many other much loved books... Love and Light.. )O(

Write about an ugly young woman with broken wings who falls out of the sky into the middle of a tiny and unknown university's baseball field, in the middle of a late summer thunderstorm. She can speak but nobody understands her. When she walks, her feet don't touch the ground but she cannot fly into the sky. She never eats or breathes but she is not dead or a zombie, or vampire, etc. When she is awake, her body is soft and easily hurt but when she sleeps it becomes transparent and invulnerable even if you drop 20 bombs on her at the same time.

Been thinking of a story about a future time when society demands full personal disclosure-like everyone must provide evidence of their own individual identity. Anonimity would be outlawed and everyone would be id'd by a unique URL, instead of a name.
To not ascribe to this rule is to be labeled criminal and blending into the crowd seen as an intentional attempt to defraud. Its simply unheard of to be unidentifiable.
Etc. Etc.

hello fellow writer! i don't generally make a practice of giving away story lines (as i said, I'm a writer too) but mythology is an excellent place to run from! find a legend, a creature, or culture that interests you, and run with it! dragons, Cerberus, Hera, Medusa, they all have pre-written story lines, all you have to do is make it better. or write a different one. find a way to work these characters into modern times. now that would be interesting wouldn't it? Medusa running amok in new york city? just a thought. have fun!

Girl, if you need this for a homework that's bad because you need to learn, second if you want to practice or to became a writer, the best stories are that comes from you brain, heart and your originality otherwise would be stealing somebody else idea. I know that isn't easy but at least try.

a medieval epic storyline bombereded with fantasy(swords, flying capabilities, mystic strength etc) and real lessons.
eg war between religions, lessons of strength , honour, peace and morality.
include a piece about egyptian or african slaves(their struggles and past situations).
write on themes about betrayal, jealousy, women and their overlooked seductive convincing power and the weakness of men(eg.Sampson,Solomon etc)
i could pour you with more ideas if you wish and even assist in your story, whatever it is provided you are interested.

most bestselling novel tackles about mystery.. it could be in the sense of psychology.. psychiatric novel can b more prferable by most of the readers.. . yoou can touch about violence.. about killing.. but to the point that still values dominate.. and i think you can have it easy to think of characters that you think suited to your novel.. it sounds good after all.. some of writers appreciate most of it..
