I moved on to the stage 3 dinners, first of all, cuz my daughter was losing interest in the stage 2. When I mentioned to my mom that my daughter wasn't eating the stage 2 well anymore, she suggested moving on to stage 3. It worked, my daughter loved them! Also, my daughter didn't get her first teeth in until around 14 months, so yes, your son should be ok with the stage 3. I also tried the Gerber potato mashers, they have chunks in them, but they were totally soft enough to eat without teeth. If you have any doubts, try it first yourself before you give it to your son. Most baby food is soft enough so they don't have to chew it, until you start with the finger foods.

I would probably wait and that is ok to do. My son is 7 months old with 3 teeth and he is still on stage 2. Usually around 8 months you can start introducing them to a higher stage, but you can even wait longer than that. Can he sit up all by himself? Use a sippy cup pretty well? And there are other questions to consider. But since he only has 1 tooth, I would wait. Like the previous person said, he will need to be able to chew his food b/c it gets pretty thick.

Not necessarily. As soon as your baby is old enough to mash up foods with his gums, he can try something a little more advanced. My little girl is six months old, no teeth yet, and yesterday she tried some cut up steamed carrots (very soft) and bananas. Try some stage 3 baby foods, and if he chokes on them or doesn't seem ready, you can always go back to stage 2. I've found that most people greatly underestimate their babies' capabilities - he'll probably be fine.

You could always try a jar and if he doesn't like it or accept it try again in a week or two. Just verrify the labels so that he is not trying more than one new food in the one jar. His gums are hard enough and should be able to chew enough. My daughter was 11 months before getting her first tooth. 12 months for her second. She did just fine! Have you tried table food with him yet? Toast (no butter), soda crackers (no salt) nutrios (chereos)? My daughter loved the finger foods!
Best of luck

It's not a matter of how many teeth the baby has it's whether or not he is "chewing" and mashing things with his gums... As long as he can "chew" and mash he should be ok... there is only slight difference in the ingredient of stage two and stage three it's more of a texture change, thicker bigger pieces of food, I would suggest that you buy a jar of something he has already eaten, ex. bananas and try it if he doesn't gag or choke then I would say that he is ready...

It also depends on how old he is but not having teeth does not have anything to do with it. The stage 3 food are still soft and his gums a hard enough that he can eat the food.

I would wait until he has more teeth. I found that the stage 3 foods were pretty chunky with lots of texture and my kids had a hard time adjusting to them for a while. Honestly, by the time they were ready for them, we just started giving them everything we were eating for dinner and they loved it way more than the baby foods!

As long as the baby food is easily digestible and soft no problem. But that one little tooth can only chew so much.
