The best way to learn more in life is through teaching and research kind of assignments besides the school of life available to all. The curiousity and the inquisitiveness of the students often adds a lot of value to exploring new and the best answers for the teachers. I think this is the main propelling reason for most adapting to this profession. Even though the lowest paid amongst all professional careers, it is also the noblest and most value adding career for a society.

Because I tend to connect with people, and find creative ways of explaining the very dry textbooks, etc.
For example, I had these special ed students who couldn't understnad why two angles across from each other on a straight lineintersected by another line are equal.
I told them- it's like a pizza pie. If you cut it too thin on this side, then on the other side, opposite the straight line you already had, it will be equally too thin.
And they all know pizza, see? So they get it, and it's a great feeling!

I am a retired professor of Andhra University, India.
I was with the faculty of Mechanical Engineering.
Here are my views regarding the answers given here:
"Only for 6-7 hours - maximum money"
Some 8 hours of theory plus another 10 hours of lab
classes. When I joined the job, my salary was Rs. 525.
Double that amount was paid in private industries for a
person with bachelor degree.
"To enrich lives of others".
Yes. I liked it.
"Don't need to sweat".
It is a mental task. You need to prepare a lot to
become a good teacher.
"They must have a passion for the subject"
Yes. I wanted to do reasearch. I was told that the so
called government research institures in India were not
doing much research at that time. But there is much
opportunity in universities. That was true in my case.
I produced 40 reserch papers, 20 of them are in a record
narrow field with very few researchers.
"Find creative ways to explain dry textbooks".
Yes. Mathematics says that there is one solution for
one problem. Engineering says that there can be n number
of solutions, each suitable for a specific application.
"To give knowledge to others".
The Upanishads say that teaching is the noblest and
most sacred of all professions. By this profession, a
person is respected like a Brahmana. Indians find it
normal, but a friend of mine from USA wrote that there
is not much respect for teachers there.
"A good teacher always has a constant thirst for knowledge
less care for the money".
Many teachers of my university believe this: " A
student is a learner for a limited period of time, but
a teacher is a student for life time".
"To teach others a sort of happiness overflows our heart".
Thank you so much for your nice expression. It filled
my heart with happiness for what I have taught.
"Even though the lowest paid amongst all professional
careers, it is also the noblest and most value adding
career for a society".
An engineering degree student is now paid nearly double
the pay of his professor.
"Without them we wouldn have known the art of living".
Yes. Whether my students respect me that way or not, I
do not know but I respect my teachers that way.
In this regard, I want you to recollect that the oldest
Universities of the world like Patali Putra and
Taxasila, about which many Greek visitors of olden days
like Megasthenes wrote, were located here. Scholars
from far east and Europe used to come here for study.
Some of the well know scholars like Archemedes were
said to have come here.

Being a teaher is a role model. You have the wisdom to know what is right and at is wrong. Hate to see stupidity around you and like to spread this wisdom. Staying out from the stream of life, you observe the world with detachment to understand it better. And whatever you understand you spread it out, hoping to make this world better palce ever.
A good teacher always has a constant thirst for knowledge and a constant search for ways to impart this knowledge.

Pupil respects teacher. A teacher has the authority and control over the group of students entrusted to him. We Indians attach great importance to the role of "Guru" in shaping our lives. A dedicated teacher is happiest when his students learn the lessons of life. There is no wealth, other than knowledge, which increases as we give.

There are 2 kinds of teachers.
1st are ones who chose it simply because they found it a god way for earning money, they dont have to like it, but they must do something for livind, and thats how it is.
2nd kind of teachers are ones who chose that (for money or not) career bucause they love it, because they think they can and want to help athers learn, to give knowledge to others, to new generations. This is rare, but very important, couse youll always be better in things you like.

Career Choice: Teacher
What do Teacher do?
Kindergarten and elementary school teachers teach children to read, write, speak, do math, and much more. They use games, music, art, films, computers, and other tools to teach children basic skills. When children learn, they feel good and will do well in school later on. When they grow up and go to work and become parents, they will do a good job because of what they learned when they were young.
Most kindergarten and elementary school teachers teach several subjects to one class of children. In some schools, two or more teachers work as a team. They teach a group of students at least one subject. In other schools, a teacher may teach one special subject to a number of classes. Usually they teach music, art, reading, science, math, or gym. Some teach classes of students from different grades.
Kindergarten and elementary school teachers may write with chalk on a chalkboard or with markers on a dry-erase board. They also may use videos, slides, overhead projectors, or computers. All these things help children learn in different ways. With computers, children can talk with students in other countries. Computers also help students solve math problems. Sometimes they help children learn to speak English better. Many teachers use computers to record the children's grades. Teachers have to keep learning to make sure that they know how to use computers and other machines in their classes.
Kindergarten and elementary school teachers work with all different kinds of children. Some are black and some are white. Some were born in the United States and some were not. Some have parents or grandparents from Europe, some from Asia, and some from Africa. With so many different kinds of children, teachers have to learn about them all. After they do learn, they make sure that all of the children can learn the way they like to. Some schools even teach teachers how to learn about different kinds of children!
Kindergarten and elementary school teachers teach lessons and give tests. They listen to the children recite their lessons and make sure that no one misbehaves. They grade the children on their work and on how well they think the children ought to do. When the children are not doing as well as they should be, the teachers give them help.
Kindergarten and elementary school teachers plan their lessons before they teach them. They also make tests and grade papers. They write the children's report cards. And they meet with parents to try to help their children do better in school. Kindergarten and elementary school teachers sometimes go to meetings and workshops.
Many kindergarten and elementary school teachers work more than 40 hours a week. Most work from September through June. Then they go on vacation during the summer. Sometimes they teach in summer school. Or they may take another job or travel. Many go to college and continue their education.
Most States have tenure laws. This means that teachers cannot be fired without a good reason. Teachers may get tenure after a certain number of years, usually 3. Tenure does not guarantee that a teacher will always have a job, but it does provide some security.
How do I prepare to become a Teacher?
You must also take special training in university. And you must take certain courses in education and be a student teacher, under the supervision of an experienced teacher.
To get a license to teach kindergarten or elementary school, you must pass tests in reading, writing, and teaching Kindergarten and elementary school teachers must be able to talk to children. The children must trust them and like them. The teachers must be able to make the children want to learn. And the teachers must understand what the children need to learn. The teachers must teach each child differently. They also should be organised, dependable, patient, and creative.

I became a teacher to enjoy the company of kids and to make their lives enjoyable when at school ,which I did not have as a kid.We were always shouted at and burdened with homework. We always hesitated to ask our doubts. As an average student I personally feel that I understand the problems of kids better and try to help them out.I have the satisfaction that at least the batch of kids with me do not have to suffer as we did.

I became a teacher because it is wonderful to see the light go on in someones eyes as they understand. We are all being taught in some way and if we are smart we find a way to pass on the knowledge. It is one of the ways of the world.
