What state are you from? How do you like it there? What are the pros and cons?
Is fresh produce and meat available? My husband and I are trying to figure out where to move after his enlistment. We've been to Georgia, SC, and Missouri. We had a hard time finding pork that wasn't Hormel superchemically injected - actually we only found Hormel! How expensive would you say food is in comparison? Homes? Land? Food was also more expensive in Missouri than in CT where we're from even though wages are lower in Missouri. Any help is well accepted, thanks!

How much variety is there where you live? Can you find different kinds of meat and cuts of meat? How good (or bad) is the education system? Crime? Oh, and if anyone knows of a website where I can find statistics on some of this info then that would be just as helpful!

I'm from Texas and love it here! We just bought our first home, and the home/land prices here are WAY below the national average. I have a new construction home, in a new development, 1600 sq. feet 3/2/2 and the price was $116,000. The schools in the district where I live are amazing, some of the best in the state, and we are about 20 miles from Ft. Worth/Dallas.

I personally don't eat meat, but my husband does, and shopping at the butchers in the Ft. Worth/Dallas area is one of his favorite things to do. He has lived in other states, and says this is the freshest meat he's ever seen. And of course, here, you could always grow your own meat if you wanted, and know exactly where it comes from.

Crime is VERY low in he outlaying areas of the D/FW metroplex, of course it's higher in the city, but only in certain areas. And of course, we have the best of both worlds out here, because we live in the "country" kind of, even though we're in a small town, in the city limits, but we're only 20 minutes from all the society & culture of Dallas or Ft. Worth, so that makes it really great! Anytime you want something different, or a fun night out, you're really close to great nightlife.

Whatever you decide, I hope you love it. That's the most important thing.

I am from the upstate of SC. I love where I live, I've lived in TX, and Mass. in the past but SC is always the place I call home.
I love that fact that we have 4 seasons, springs are lovely with the budding trees, and flowers. Summers can be a little humid, but the heat is usually not oppressive. Falls are beautiful with the changing leaves, and winters are not usually harsh.
I can be in the mountains in 30 minutes, and can see them everyday from my window. The coast is about 4 hours away.
Fresh produce is abundant in the summer and up through the fall, in fact I have picked tomatoes from my garden as late as mid December. We have all different varieties of meat and you can purchase meats that aren't chemically injected.
Home prices can vary considerable depending on what you are looking for, I would say average is around 150k, but my son and daughter in law just purchased a beautiful 1900sq ft home for 73k.
Our school system is average I would say, and crime rate is relatively low compared to other cities our size in other states.
The people are warm and friendly, all you need to learn is to say ya'll.
SC smiling faces, beautiful places

Illinois. It's alright. I live in the Chicago area, and you can get anything here. I mean ANYTHING. There are whole groceries that are targeted to certain ethnicities. Go a little further south and you can buy your meat right from the slaughter house and fill your freezer if you want to. There are loads of farms in central IL. The cons are high taxes and Chicago area has very bad crime that mostly goes unreported. I would stay away from the city and move out to some place more central IL...seems like meat is pretty important. I wouldn't know about the land prices out farther, sorry.

Currently, I live in Canonsburg, PA. The cost of living is low, the crime level is very low, the educational system is great, but food shopping is horrible unless you're willing to travel downtown to the strip (about 30-40 minutes). However, you still can't find everything at the strip. I like to experiment with ethnic cooking - Spanish, Mexican, Japanese, Chinese, etc. And I can't find a lot the ingredients.

I used to live 20 miles west of Washington, D.C. in Ashburn, VA. The cost of living is VERY high and traffic is horrible, but the crime level is low, weather is great, education is amazing, and food shopping is prime. There are a variety of shops and entertainment options, beautiful area!

Originally, I'm from Baltimore County, Maryland. It's a nice area with every modern day convenience nearby. The crime level is pretty high because it's on the outskirts of Baltimore City and public education stinks. However, they offer great private school options. The cost of living can be reasonable. Check out living in Hunt Valley, Cockeysville, or Towson. These areas are nicer.

Chen Taiji Pros: Taiji is a very effective and well rounded fighting style utilising joint locks, throws, pressure point attacks, and strikes with every part of ur body. Every form has multiple offensive and defensive uses. Taiji teaches the practitioner to use their opponents strength and aggresion back against him. It cultivates internal power. It is practiced slow to teach patience and for the practitioner to observe the subtle daily progress. Daily practice improves the practitioners health and immune system. In the highest levels u learn to use ur Chi to supplement muscular strength and speed. Cons: Taiji takes a very long time just to become proficient. It takes years for all the bodys joints and meridians to open up. It must be practiced daily to have improvement. Missing 2 days means u spend 5 days catching back up to the point u were before u missed any days. There is a serious lack of qualified instructors who actually know both the health and martial aspects of the art. Too many people think that after a couple years they know enough to teach when they havent even scratched the surface.

Buffalo NY...They tax you to death (8.75% sales tax) and some property taxes are very high in certain areas (14,000 a year!!!) Crime is also high in some areas (1st ward, east buffalo, west side, etc etc) So far it isn't AS cold as people say it is....I used to live in the pocono mountains in Pennsylvania and it's really the SAME weather here as it is there, so don't believe the hype. The only good thing about here is that people keep to themselves, cause people that are nosey deserve a foot in their ***. Some house prices in some parts are very cheap if you can find a job here to pay for that cheap house and you will say to yourself down the road, why do you even WANT to buy a house here lol!!!

Chiang Mai, Thailand. The prices here are a fraction of any state in the union. The quality of life on a cost/benefit basis could hardly be cheaper.
I live in Chiang Mai to the north and Thailand's second largest city. There are approximately 5,000 expats living here, an expat club and an American Consulate, duplex cinemas and shop to you drop malls. Many fine, inexpensive restaurants and markets. And international schooling available. You are at the hub of South East Asia. Disadvantages: you have to have a spirit of adventure and be prepared to do your best to learn Thai language and culture, and make certain trade offs in adjusting to the society. But, hey, with satellite and cable TV. you stay up to date. (For $14.95 one can get all Red Sox audio feeds for preseason, regular season and post season games. TV feeds are more costly.) Heat is not as bad as Bangkok, but there are plenty of 95 to 100 degree days in season.
This is probably an eyepoper to you, but, if you are at all intrigued, it's worth following up.

Kansas...it sucks. You can grow almost anything in a garden...Beef is the main animal grown here, but you can't get a good cut because all the prime cuts go to the military. The economy and wages are depressed. It is flat and brown, windy and dusty. Land of OZ my butt.

I agree with Kali. Illinois is great. But I would recommend Wisconsin. Excellent schools, beautiful countryside, good food and, if you live in the southeast, close to Chicago!
