I lost my Father to suicide when I was 2. It had a worse effect on my siblings, as they ranged in age from 11-18 at the time, and my two sisters found him dead in the morning when they took him in breakfast. I am so terribly sorry that he felt so desperate but I've spent my entire life being angry with him too. It is a cowards way out, no doubt about it, and as far as I'm concerned, once you have children you have no right to deprive them of a parent in such a way. But, my motto is "Whatever doesn't kill you, makes you stronger" so I haven't let this event rule my life. It will always be there, and I will always love him still, but I have to focus on my life, and my kids.
To everyone else who answered about their terrible losses, my heart goes out to you and I wish you all the luck in the world. Peace.
Edit: To Nancy J who's friend killed herself? Please don't beat yourself up for the rest of your life, you were eleven, for God's sake!. A) would your friend want you to do that to yourself? and B) If you had rung her back, she may have waited a day or two, but if she wanted to go that badly, she would have, regardless of what you did or said. Please let this go and move on. It's hard, but it can be done, I assure you. It's sounds sucky, but I send my love to you.

my dad beat my mum up in front of me, my brother and my sister all the time when i was a child i was three years old when my dad slit my mums throut in front of me i remember it like it was yesterday he used to steal my mums benefit book and go and cash it to gamble and we would have no food and light and heat in the house they were hard times, i was raped by my first boyfriend when i was 16 he was19 and it was my first time and i didnt know any better i told noone through fear of my mum thinking i was dirty because i felt dirty and blamed myself for what happened. But the best thing thats ever happned to me in my life is my boyfriend who i am with now he is the only one ive told all of the above about and been able to talk to. he's the nicest guy ive ever been with he thinks the world of me and totally adores me and he treats me so well i cant believe it and i adore him, so maybe im finally finding my happiness, my childhood and teens was the worst time in my life.

In my mind, it has to be the day my grandad died. My cousin called to say hed had a stroke, but he was in hospital and not doing too bad, then 6 hours later she called to say hed died. I miss him every single day and am devastated that he wasnt with me when I got married last year as he loved my hubby nearly as much as I do.
Something else, that doesnt look like much but has affected my life since, the first guy I slept with, dumped me the same evening having slept with my mate (gone from my bed to hers) Consequently I find it impossible to trust men and have some pretty self destructive issues to deal with my male relationships. xx

My grandmother was murdered.
I was'nt quick enough....
The guy that murdered my grandmother was taken into police custody before I could get my hands on him and they would'nt tell me which jail he was in, nor was I allowed to visit the bastard.
EDIT:
The worst part......I had planned on taking the kids to see her that weekend for a surprise visit....something came up so I just called and made new plans to visit the next weekend.
We buried "Grammy" on her 81st birthday.
It was our first funeral with a closed casket. They refused to show me the pics of what happened to her....and in court, our family was told to step out so the jury could see the pics. (Don't know why I even asked.)

Realizing that no matter what I do, I will never measure up to the person I thought I would once be. I think we all feel some disappointment in our lives, but working past it it terribly hard at times.

me being pretty sweet and adjustable... people takin advantage of it.. n not once twice or thrice but several times friends.. boyfriends.. a few professional people ditchin me after usin me n takin undue influence.. its like worse than some one dyin also.. they kill u even by not touchin u.. i mean its high time people start understandin that a person bein sweet doesn always get snubbed at the end of the day... n the worst part of these is that u some how cope up with life.. n try to carry on.. but wat happens... how much ever u try u end up fallin in the same pit but from a different direction.. god!!! then again the same story...

Being caught in a house fire at 17 with my 7 yr old brother. The event itself and the aftermath (my dog was killed, lost everything we owned, and the house I grew up in) was pretty cruddy.
