I'm still a freshman in college and I'm taking med prereq classes and doing good, but what really scared me is that I was talking to someone who has just graduated from college and applied to several med schools but got rejected from them all, he sais that he had a 4.0 GPA and 42Q in the MCATs, why do you think he didn't get accepted?

I highly suspect that this person got rejected basically because they just had the GPA and MCAT score. Nothing else.

No extra currics (at most, just participated but never showed they were active or cared)

None or bad letters of rec - teachers didn't know the person other than they go good grades

Bad essay/bad interview

Doctors deal with humans. Don't want a robot who just remember a lot of stuff but that's about it.

How did he do in the interview? How were his letters of recommendations? Has he done any volunteer work?

You have to think.... to those great med school.. at least 75% applying are going to have great grades and great MCAT scores... As an administrator how would you make a choice?

Your personal statement, interview? Recommendations? Volunteer Work? This is what sets your apart if you are all at the same level....

Here's something to put this in perspective: there are more class valedictorians than there are spaces in Ivy League freshman classes. Grades aren't everything, and you have no idea who he competed with to get that spot. Also, it depends on where you're doing your undergrad. If you're at a highly selective school that has lots of money for undergraduate research, you're going to be in a better spot than if you're in a school with poor funding and few graduates going to med school.

I AM ACTUALLY PLANNING ON GOING TO MED SCHOOL AND KNOW THAT ALTHOUGH GRADES ARE REAL IMPORTANT EQUALY IMPORTANT IS THE WILL TO LEARN MEDICINE FOR THE SCIENCE AND TO HELP.THER ARE PEOPLE WHO ONLY STUDY MEDICINE FOR THE MONEY.. THESE PEOPLE GET MANY MALPRACTICE SUITS AND MAKE THE MED SCHOOL LOOK IMCOMPETENT. DID YOU ALSO KNOW THEY LOOK FOR COMMUNITY INVOLVMENT TO DEMONSTRATE YOUR WANTING TO HELP OTHERS.
WEIRD BUT TRUE.. HAVE YOU EVER MET A DR. ONLY IN IT FIR THE MONEY. I HAVE!!! I DONT TRUST THIER OPINION OR VISIT TWICE.(HOSPITAL OR PRIVATE PRACTICE)
ANYWAY,,,ASK AN ADVISOR AT SCHOOL THEY GET UPDATES ON WHAT THE INTERVIEWER LOOKS FOR..
IS THE 4.0 IN A SCIENCE FIELD THAT MAKES A BIG DIFFERENCE.
