You only strip from the waist down. You will be given a covering blanket until the doctor is ready to perform your smear.

You will then be asked to bend your knees and let your thigh muscles relax out. The doctor will gently insert a speculum, now often a plastic tube, occasionally still metal, into your vagina. The doctor will then open the speculum, when you might hear it click. As this stretches you it will be be a little uncomfortable. If you can try and relax again. The doctor will then direct a light into your vagina and when your cervix can be seen he will rub a brush on a stick over it.The brush and speculum will then be removed. Sometimes after this the doctor will want to examine your pelvic organs. This is done by inserting 2 gloved fingers while placing a hand on your lower abdomen.

The whole thing takes less than 5 minutes. Once you have had your first smear, assuming it is performed properly and gently, you should not have any concerns about the next one.

Please try not to feel embarrassed, believe me doctors and nurses have a medical mode that they all switch into and we really do not even notice any other aspects of patients bodies.

Well, the doctor usually sends you into another small room to get half-undressed (the bottom half) and then he/she comes in to examine you. Getting undressed in front of your doctor really isn't as embarassing as it seems. It's what they do for a living and they see these things every day.

They take a very small wooden spatula or a soft small brush and take a sample (they basically take a small wipe of the inside) and then you get dressed again.

The put the sample under a microscope just to check if everything's okay. If it's okay (which it almost always is) then you're done. It it's not okay then they tell you whats wrong and what steps to take to fix the situation.

Nothing on and lie there in public?? Sounds like you're going to some other establishment - not your local docs for a smear test!?!

Within 30 seconds its all over and you then have the 2 week wait for the results. As for pain - none as long as you relax.

you dont have to get undressed infront of anybody, in the nurses room you would take your trousers and pant off, behind the curtain, lay down on the bed and you would most likely have a towel or somthing over your privates, then she would ask you to put both feet on the bed, with your knees bent and then just relaxe and let your legs fall apart, simple, then just try to stay relaxed and take yourself somewhere where your head can just mellow right out and you should be ok, and believe it or not in my experiance men are more gentle than woman, and it only takes a couple o minutes.. so good luck, stop bein a woooss and go, it'll save a whole lot of problems later on in life.

you're in no way too youthful to have a smear try, anybody who's sexually lively could desire to have a try each and every 2 years, whether at your age you won't qualify for any unfastened programmes. As for being painful, your persons are having a humorous tale with you ~ the two that or they are being princesses approximately something very organic and hassle unfastened in in simple terms about all situations. The try takes all of approximately 2 minutes, and maximum of it fairly is coaching. For the try, the wellbeing care provider in simple terms expands the vaginal beginning with a speculum and then inserts a protracted, skinny 'spatula' (which seems in simple terms like a plastic tube with little bristles at one end), and brushes it over the cervix. This collects cells that are despatched for prognosis. there may be a average stinging sensation as a results of fact the device touches the cervix, for some million/2 a 2d, in spite of the incontrovertible fact that it ought to infrequently be referred to as 'painful', at maximum quickly uncomfortable. the main uncomfortable subject must be the insertion of the speculum, if the wellbeing care provider isn't considerate. yet maximum docs will heat the speculum and use lubricant, so the insertion is extremely painless. situations of cervical maximum cancers in women decrease than 25 are somewhat uncommon, yet once you decide directly to start real in being sexually healthful at your age ~ decide for it! solid luck and suitable needs :-)

You usually undress from the waist down, only takes a couple minutes, not painful, but uncomfortable. The whole time you have a sheet over you, and only the part of the body needed is exposed. Not as scary as it sounds. Good luck, It's worth it.

You dont take all your clothes off, just ur bottom half. U then lie on a bed and they tell u to put ur feet together and let ur knees drop. Its then over and done with before u know. It probably takes 2 mins and then thats it for another 3 years. Everything its dignified and the doctor or nurse has done hundreds before. It can save ur life so dont put it off.

My smear test didn't hurt! You lie down on a table and spread your legs so that the nurse can take a sample. it takes about 2 minutes and then it's all forgotten with.

takes 2 minutes! a bit embarrassing , i know, but better safe than sorry! 2 minutes embarrassment or cervical cancer? i know which i'd prefer!
and don't listen to Fi! it doesn't hurt at all! it's just a little uncomfortable but the more you relax the less uncomfortable it is!
and you don't strip off completely, you just remove your bottoms or what i do is wear a loose gypsy skirt and just lift it! the nurse/doctor will pull the curtain around you too so no-one else will see!
and you only have to go through it once every two or three years!
