Benjamin Franklin by a mile.

He was a genius and a statesman. A genius of science and a genius of the arts/ philosophy/ politics. As well as a major leader.

He discovered electricity. He had many inventions.

He was regarded as the top statesman of his time. He represented America in international forums because he was simply the best.

He was a great idealist. He believed in the best side of America before in and after his time.

He was the most impressive founding father. A truly great man. If only every American could live up to his standards

Even thou the Discovery Channel did the same question and got Ronald Reagan, I think it was because he had recently died and his name was in everyone mind at the time.

I would say Henry Ford. He epitomized American ingenuity, and his vision had a far lasting impact on America, and other countries than any political leader America has ever had.
