Well, here is my experienced opinion, as a computer engineer since 1965.

You have two choices:
1. Continue to think "inside the Microsoft box"!

You'll need to find, and use (annual upgrades, plus, purchase expense!?) up to 8 protections schemes from the "trusted Partners" of Microsoft, to protect you from the "114,000 Microsfot Virus Definitions". Everyone KNOWS it is a "Protection Scheme"!

You will spend about two hours each week, or more, of your time, and system resources, to combat those programs that are used by spammers and crackers to take advantage of your system on the internet.

2. Get one of the 800+ FREE Operating Systems, that are immune to all the "114,000 Microsoft Virus Definitions".

I recommend you try out http://pclinuxos.com that boots in CDrom as a LiveCDrom, for you to 'try out'. It runs in a RAM disk, or Virtual Drive, in the memory, so your hard drive can't be corrupted.

After you enjoy some of the 1900 included FREE games and programs, and you feel comfortable with Tux, the Penguin, you can read the Install Guide onscreen, and install.

Please be sure to select the right install option, as there are three:

1. Wipe drive, erase all files and OSes, install PCLinuxOS (default choice! Careful!)
2. Partition and format for dual or multiple OS system..
3. Create partitions of the sizes and file format types you choose. Really great for expert users.

If you have a second drive installed, and it is blank, you can choose to install to that, also.

Menu upon boot will give you choices of OS to run. Have seen one system at a clubfest that has 125 OSes!

Upon install, the system processes in PCLinuxOS will run upto 50X faster and you have a full repository of over 5500 games, programs, browsers, office suites, scientific programs and applications! There is more great news, on the web forums.

You don't need an antivirus program for hackers. What you need is a firewall inplace to prevent them from hacking into your system. Lot of good ones out there for free such as Zone Alarm. Go to any freeware site and shop.

I had kaspersky Anti-Virus utility some years in the past and it did no longer p.c.. up each and all of the viruses that have been modern. I had an endemic and it did no longer instruct that I had one until I deleted their utility and downloaded yet another corporation's anit-virus. in my view i admire AVG or avast.

antivirus software doesn't protect you from hackers
