My husband and I got into a debate last night..
On one of my shows I watch on the Discovery Channel, there was a baby born with two heads- one head was attached to the other. Both heads had brains and could see and make facial expressions, so it was actually like 2 babies sharing one body. This was in India.
The doctors said that the babies would both die if the second head was not removed because it was draining the energy from the other baby somehow. The second head could not live on it's own due to a lack of a body and would die instantly when they cut it off..
Knowing that the second head had feelings and could smile at you and loved you, would you be able to let the doctors kill it to save the first baby? I would have a really hard time making the decision. My husband said he wouldn't. I don't understand how he couldn't.
Yes, these are the types of things my husband and I argue about because our lives are that boring.

It's simple men are logical where women are emotional...if the second head is going to eventually kill the baby and the other head will survive if the second is detached then you save the viable baby at the sacrifice of the other....no questions or hesitation needed

Normally, I would agree with you regarding the right to life issue. Please look at what you've told us for a second: "The second head couldnot live on its own due to a lack of a body....the doctors said that the babies would both die if the second head was not removed because it was draining the energy from the other baby somehow." Think about the "normal" little baby. If you were that baby and could talk, would you want to be possibly drained and deprived of life because of an extra head? Is it fair to FORCE a person to live with an extra appendage for the sake of preventing cruelty? WHAT would they do with it and HOW would THEY benifit? Now, thinking with your heart and head TOGETHER, does hubby seem so cruel?

Sorry Hun, but I agree with your husband on this one. I would have no problems letting the doctors remove one of the heads if it meant that the entire other baby would live to old age. I would rather have one living child than have no child at all. It might sound cruel to you, but this is perhaps a good example of "guy logic" at work. Who knows, there may even be a fair amount of women that feel as your husband and myself do. And just because these are the types of things you and your husband discuss (not argue-even if it seems like one) does not mean your lives are necessarily boring, but rather I think it means you two are that comfortable with each other.

Maybe he's not a heartless chump... sometimes it's hard for guys to truly allow themselves to feel empathy in the way we do because they think it will emasculate them to show that kind of emotion. At least American guys because that's the way we are socialized in this country.
Personally, as the mother of a 3-year-old, I can't imagine having to make the decision between those two loving little faces. If the babies were his, believe me, he would have a much harder time deciding than he lets on! So, give the heartless chump a break :).

Wow, that's horrific. If I was actually in that situation, I imagine the decision would be heartwrenching. From the outside looking in, I feel it would be best to remove the second head, because the second head could not live on it's own, and with the continued attachment, it would kill the child. I feel it would be best to save the one whole child, not allow the child-and-a-half die. Still, what a horrific situation.

No you married a very intelligent man. The doctors said that both babies would die if the second head was not removed. So there is only one chance to save one baby. Otherwise, you lose them both! Listen to your husband and be glad you have a television.

It's very difficult. Almost impossible from a parents point of view. Perhaps if you see it from the original child's point of view (which they haven't formed yet) then maybe you'd feel the same way as your husband. What if you had a parasitic head attached to you (which didn't wish you any physical harm but was in fact draining your life)? Horrible decision but in my opinion it would have to go so that one could live a full life instead of a life of suffering and pain.

If you don't cut off the head then the whole baby dies, so I would have to remove the extra head,to save the baby. It would be a tough decision. No matter what you do it would be wrong

Yes it is a very sad case but if there was no chance they could survive with the two of them i think i would proceed with the surgery. Isnt one life better than none. Dont be too hard on ur husband either everyone is entitled to their own opinion. Me n my fiancee dont agree on anything but ive accepted hes his own person as well as my husband to be.

No, it makes perfect sense to me. It's a straight choice between killing both kids by doing nothing, or killing one. Sure, it wouldn't be fun, but I can't see having a problem deciding what to do.
Damnn it. I was hoping you had a real problem and I could coax you away from you hubby. Then again, there's the small matter of my wife... hmm....
