I want to change my identity including my name. How do I do this legally? No, I am not a criminal.

A lot of states have pre-made legal forms for this purpose. You can obtain them, fill them out, pay the fees and a court hearing will be had for your name change.

In some states (or local jurisdictions) the judge will require a reason for the name change. Common reasons are, divorce, religious reasons, difficult spelling, resemblance to another name, derogatory inferences (such as a boy named Rebel or something similar).

Usually a notice must be placed in a newspaper stating that "old name" is petitioning for a name change.

In any case, you will need to visit your courthouse and enquire as to the proper procedures.

Then once the court hearing is completed, you would take that documentation to your DMV (or whoever issues driving licences and IDs) and get a new one with your new name on it.

As to other changes, I'm not sure if they can be done. I know it is extremely difficult to change a social security number. You must prove that is has been fraudulently used or whatever.

Birthdates and places of birth cannot be changed.

Everything else can be changed by yourself. Things such as bank accounts, library cards, etc. All you would need to do is bring your new ID with your new name and get new ones.
