I'm a 16 yearold Black girl who has big drems of going to college and grad school and becoming a PR Manager or a producer. I'm in 3 AP classes and many of my Black peers around me say that I "act white" and that I can't go to college and make 6 figures because I'm Black. These things really hurt me. I went natural recently and mnay of the Black kids at my school are saying stuff like "your hair is ugly and nappy" and that I "used to have good hair." Wihle on the other hand non-black people are compplemeting my new look and my intelligence.

This sounds like the classic "crabs in a bucket" syndrome. The other folks are jealous of you because you are going somewhere and you WILL succeed in life without having to take your clothes off in a rap video, or bounce a ball. Somewhere along the lines, black Americans have taken on "stupid and happy" as a part of our racial identity. Many blacks think it's "our place" to be dumb and if you're anything other than that, then you're not really "black". (whatever that means!) If you seek to learn something in a learning institution, you are "acting white". If you speak proper English, you are "acting white".
Being educated is not being "white". It's being a human.
I applaud you for wanting to achieve great things in life by using your mind. Just keep your head up and don't listen to those zeroes. They flunk in school...they'll flunk in life. Too bad they're too busy picking on you to see that you're leaving them in the dust.

It's mostly out of jealousy. Sometimes ppl in someone's own culture don't wanna do anything to help themselves and hate it when they see others doing good. It help validate their own lack of self-worth if they trash you. The point is, why do you care? You know who or what you are. You sound like someone with a plan who is in the process of making her plans a reality. Stop caring what someone who you don't know and who doesn't know you says to you. What does their opinion really matter? At the end of the day it is your own drive and determination that will dictate in which direction your life will take you. I'm sure you are not alone with this. I am sure ppl said the same thing to Oprah, Obama and Condoleeza. I mean, think about it, who are these ppl to determine what is black and what is not? Who are they? The culture police? I will leave you with this saying by Dr. Seuss: Be who you are & say what you feel because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind.
Keep your head up and don't let the hood rats get you down.

Wow..well, the world is a big place and unfortunately high school is just a tiny section of this planet Earth. In college, I'm pretty sure you'll encounter people of your background who will be, on the reverse, totally supportive of your dreams and goals. I wouldn't say one's own people are the least positive; you just have to meet new members of the cultural group you pertain to. It takes time. Look forward to a bright future. And congrats on the AP classes. They go a long way in reducing the courseload you'll encounter in college.

That is NOT true....
You tend to notice this because you are around "your own people" most of the time.
Believe me other so called "non-black" people will do a better job at bringing you down....

Yeah, its pretty discouraging, but what you do is prove them all wrong, by continuing your education.
This is a bit sad, but when you are successful, everyone wants to be your friend, or find a way to use you, therefore they won't insult you.
