Good point. I think the reporters and the newspaper are probably in line for Pulitzer Prizes for their work in uncovering an important scandal that has rocked the Defense Department and the administration. No one can doubt that this is a story that needed to be written, and a scandal that might have continued but for the exposure in the Post. Liberal or conservative, all Americans can find this situation disgusting, and very certainly not generated by partisanship.

To me it doesn't matter who broke the story or what their motivations were. The point is that the story needed to be broken. The Army has a lax history of responding to problems within it's ranks and this case is no exception. I am with the Democrats on this one. We need independent review, not just at Walter Reed, but rather the whole VA system. Veterans have paid their dues with sacrifice and service to this country. It is our duty to reward those sacrifices with the best care possible. Anyone who disagrees with this fact cannot truly call themselves a Patriot.

Why was it the media's responsibility to "break" this story?
What about all of US....the American people being defended by our troops?? If so many self promoting self centered "patriots" from every side of the issue weren't so busy puffing out their chests & acting like they are the militaries new best friend we would have been taking better care of our service members over the last , oh 3 ...4....5.. DECADES !!
But then why should we be involved in providing any solutions or paying attention to what conditions exist at VA facilities??
We can sit back & hope the "media" handles things, or the "government" handles things. for us, so we're free to sit here bickering like kids who can't share a cookie , & feel all proud for thinking up a new way to put down a fellow AMERICAN you have a disagreement with.........GOD HELP US ALL !!

Exposing rats for being the rats they are is what the press should be doing. The press should not merely repeat what it is fed. The press has been highly negligent for the past 7 years. I don't take this story is any great turn around either, just an isolated incident.

No, no single media source can take credit on this one. The military medical system has been terrible for so long, it was just a matter of time that the snowball effect would result in a complete avalanche. I have been in the military for 14 years, and hands down have to say the health system sucks! They MIGHT save your life if you are dying, but if Ibuprofen and Motrin don't fix it, then you are screwed!

Actually, since it seems that the conditions that are the subject of the scandal seem to have been ongoing for several years, it is an example of the media paying too little attention to the needs of the military.
Were the media really loyal to the US and supporting the troops, this story would have broken YEARS ago.

For those who think federal government and universal health care are the answers, pay close attention.
No one attempted a cover up, so "breaking" the story is not an issue. The injured and family members are the ones who really "broke" the story.

Free press doing a terrible job. How many years did it take for them to catch on to a story in their own back yard? With all the celebrities and big shots regularly visiting WR, this should have been outed YEARS ago.

Would you have believed it more if it were the Washington Times? At least the Post isn't owned and run by MOONIES. As in drones of the Rev Sun Myung Moon. Look it up.

Thank God for the Post - or soldiers that were giving their best for us would STILL be living in the worst we could provide.
The Army was doing NOTHING until the story broke.
