I think the other answerer just wanted the two points...grrrrr.....The best way I know of is to have a good FIREWALL that prevents hackers from entering your site. MICROSOFT usually has one on the computer if you have there system. I presently have another thru my internet provider, but MICROSOFT is usually a pretty good one... Others are avail..Enter FIREWALL PROVIDERS (or something similiar) in the search bar and many websites will appear for other options...

Do have an effective Security Policy, at your company that would encompass at least these issues, depending on your companies security needs:
1. Have an effective password policy that includes lock out policy, minimum password length, and how often passwords should be changed.
2. Have a policy that employees do not leave their computer "unlocked" so that anyone can access them even when they go to the bathroom.
3. Each user should have restrictions on the user account..each user should NOT have Administrative privelages. Only one or two Admins should have admin privelages and even they should run in a restricted account except when they are actually making administrative changes. The policy should be that each user needs only have permissions to do his/her job and no more. Each employee should be allowed to use ONLY his/her account, not accounts of others.
4. If an employee leaves the firm, for example, if he/she is to be fired, the computer admin should be notified first, so the angry employee, after being fired, does not access the computer and cause damage on the last day. An about to be fired employee's user account should be deleted before the employee is notified of his/her termination.
5. The guest account should be disabled.
6 If the theft is occurring online, and not by employees, then a switch in Operating System to open source, such as Kubuntu at www.kubuntu.org
is the only long term solution if you are currently running Windows. Windows is a huge security hole/virus magnet that will attract millions of hackers crackers armed with at least 114,000 virii that uniquely attack Windows, but not open source software, or Mac.
