It is a possibility but feel it has more to do with who can make the most phone calls-don't want their phone bill.
If it's about looks then Clay Atkins broke that mold along with Rubin.
That was not a slam on them-it's just they are not super great in the looks dept. but they sure can sing.
Everytime I watch the show I close my eyes and just hear the voice and make my one decision on that alone.
Those that have not been the winner but have great voices have not been left behind either-seems they get a fair shot at fame too but on a smaller scale (or larger-Oscar winner anyone).

Yes, because America almost always votes for people for reasons besides their vocals. HELLOO? The show is a singing competition!

obviously, antonella has skated by on her looks the last two weeks. it definetly has not been her talent that has kept her on the show.

there was a guy who looked like simon but well apaprently did not sing so well and was not selected so.............if you are bad looking you are not chosen
