If i where you (im not been awful when i say this) but i wouldn't really buy anything of any value for your childs 1st birthday,to be honest,as the child doesn't know anything different at this age.One thing i would recommend though, why dont you take a video of the day,to me that would mean soo much to yourself and the child when he or she grows up and its something you can look back on years to come.Im going by experience with having two children of our own,one is 17yrs old and the other is 12yrs old now, they grow up too quick. As they've grown up i often ask them "do you remember your 1st birthday" and the 2nd and so on,they both said nooo.but its so nice to look back on their 1st birthday video, mind you they get a bit embarrassed when their mates are down and we get the video's out,so if i where you, i would,if your having some family & friends round for the day to celebrate why dont you do a few sarnies, buns, crisps etc,for your guests, get the video out and enjoy the day.thats much more fun,and a lot cheaper, because as the years pass it will get more expensive, beleive me.hope your day goes well

Its true they do not understand at this age and also it can be frightning if its made too much of a big thing.Perhaps just hold a small party for him with a few of your friends children try not to over crowd though, you could get a ball pit something he will also enjoy as he grows or my friend had a small bouncy castle brought in for her boys 1st it wasent over the top it was a special day for him with all his close family members and a few younger kids and balloons which all 1 year olds are fasinated by.although the party started at 2pm untill 4.30pm he was asleep by 3.15!!But it will be as special as you make it.

Take them to pass play laser tag and for some pizza. Or to an arcade. They in all threat have party rooms there too. Like Dave and Busters (no longer particular once you've one on the fringe of you) yet they have such countless video games and also you are able to order food and they have large benches for activities and households and stuff. The laser tag in all threat varies, one I went to a jointly as contained in the previous had a room for little ones with activities yet in all threat now no longer all of them do.

we had our little girls' 1st birthday last Saturday - just had her grandparents round, godparents and a close family friend with two little kiddies. We made a fuss of her and bought "cheapish" presents just so that she would have something to open....it was exhausting for her though and she went to sleep halfway through the afternoon. I agree with the person that said to make a video - it is a big milestone and a special day to remember.

A naming ceremony is a great idea - baby's 1st birthday is more for you and your family and friends, so think about what would be special for you and that you can show baby in photos or video years later.
Happy Birthday to Baby

For my daughters 1st birthday, we had a little party with all our family. She had no idea what was going on but seemed to really enjoy all the fuss and comotion. She also twigged that the boxes with paper on them led to toys being inside. Do something that revolves around her but that you will enjoy too.
