It;s supposed to be effective up to 72 hours after sex. You really must take a test just to stop yourself worrying, that's why your period may be late!!

The sooner you do a test, the sooner you will know and you can sort yourself out.

Good luck

Erm i can be very effective but i have had a huge problem with it.
i used it over 1 year ago after a condom split and i now have another addition to my family (a beautiful 4month boy).
I suggest if you are worried to go to your doctor. If your under 16 they wont even be able to tell your parents so no-one will ever know.
Also ive found that stress and worring you might be pregnant can put a hold on your periods. So doing a test would put your mind at rest at you will most probably have your period start by the end of the week.
hope this helps hunni

listen, your period can be late its normanl once you have took the morning after pill, it messes up your cycle.if you are really concerned, they tell you to do a preganancy test 21 days after taking the tablet. maybe you should do that but no sooner than 21days as it wouldnt show up anyway.
go into your local chemist and ask for a leaflet on

levonelle(this is the name of the pill they give you)

i mean levonelle only preventa about 84% of expected pregnancies when it is taken within 72 hours of unprotected sex. levonelle will not prevent a pregnancy in every instabce but the tablet is more effective the sooner you take it after unprotected sex, normally whithin the first 12hours is the bset time. it stops your ovaries releasing anegg and preevents the sperm from fertalising any egg you may ave already released or stop a fertalised egg attaching itself to your womb lining.so really levonelle stops a preganacy beforeit is even established, it doesnt work if your already pregnant.

i hope this helps
good luck

Claire, I have taken this pill twice now and both times it worked although I would not recommend it as a form of regular contraception....( we all make mistakes )

Each time I took it my period was late and I was also sh iting myself thinking the worse so I took a test. They were both negative. This is the only way to put your mind at ease and then you'll probably get your period....

At least you will know either way - if you are pregnant you can then decide what your going to do - but to just hope this goes away is not how to deal with it....

Good luck love - I hope you get your period soon. Ema. x

It could just be that taking it has messed up your hormones, but you should do a test to put your mind at ease.
Btw - it's not true that a pregnancy test won't show up until 21 days after you have taken it. Pregnancy tests are 99% effective if used after a missed period, so would be accurate now.

According to brook advisory emergency contraception is 95% effective if taken within 24 hours and reduces to 58% effective if taken within 72 Hours.
Therefore it is possible you are pregnant but it is also possible that the stress you are feeling has delayed your period. Get a pregnancy test (Free at GP's/family planning clinics in the UK)

u may have taken it too late. it is known to be very effective, but more effective the sooner u take it. u have 72 hours and u were pretty close. they say between 5 and 17 hours is teh most effective. stress could be causing it to be late. dont worry about it. if u are pregannt u will find out soon enough.
